EPSON Provides Color Reference Platform Designed for Palm OS

EPSON Research and Development Inc., the world's leader in color LCD controllers, Tuesday announced the SDU1376VZ-REF Reference Platform designed for the Palm OS(R).

The SDU1376VZ-REF is the result of a joint development between Epson Research & Development Inc. and Palm Inc. The EPSON platform was created to provide Palm OS licensees with a flexible environment for developing color-enabled hardware and software.

The SDU1376VZ-REF seamlessly connects to the DragonBall(TM) VZ-based Hardware Evaluation Kit for Palm OS. The key component in this configuration, EPSON's SED1376 Color LCD Controller, offers a high level of integration, which provides handheld markets with a low-cost, low-power, feature-rich color display solution and will be showcased at the Embedded Systems Conference in the EPSON booth (no. 1932).

"Our hardware and software design teams worked very closely with Palm to create this unique, highly flexible evaluation environment." said George Lyons, director, Product Engineering & Technical Marketing, EPSON Research & Development Inc. "The result of this joint development will allow Palm OS licensees to bring color enabled products to market faster, thereby expanding this exciting market segment."

IDC reports that the handheld market will grow 50 percent in 2000, with Palm OS devices making up 74 percent. EPSON's leadership position in this industry is further enhanced by having its most popular LCD Controllers directly supported in the Palm OS Hardware Abstraction Layer.
