Extended Systems Launches XTNDConnect Blue SDK Bluetooth Wireless Toolkit for Windows Operating Systems

Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leader in mobile data management and wireless connectivity solutions, today introduced at PCIA GlobalXchange a complete Bluetooth solution for the Windows platform.

XTNDConnect Blue SDK (software development kit) for Windows is a complete suite of data management applications, core protocols and a wireless toolkit designed to help Windows developers build innovative Bluetooth product applications.

The package provides PC manufacturers with an important bridge to Microsoft's future Bluetooth support and delivers multiple, out-of-the-box user applications to help retrofit existing PCs with Bluetooth technology. Windows application developers, poised to implement Bluetooth, receive a development platform for building new products without having to be a Bluetooth expert.

XTNDConnect Blue SDK for Windows

Application support is an important element to market acceptance of Bluetooth. Version 1.0 of XTNDConnect Blue SDK for Windows includes two data management applications for exchanging and synchronizing data: XTNDConnect Monitor and XTNDConnect PC.

XTNDConnect Monitor enables a user to simply see and manage multiple Bluetooth devices. Features include the ability to easily monitor the status of Bluetooth connections and send or receive files to another Bluetooth device.

XTNDConnect PC synchronizes data between a PC and Windows CE (Pocket PC devices) and Palm OS platform devices. These devices can synchronize e-mail, calendar, contacts, and notes with popular personal information management (PIM) applications including Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Lotus Organizer and Act!. XTNDConnect Blue SDK for Windows also provides support for existing and new applications through its wireless toolkit features.

Wireless Toolkit

The wireless toolkit provides an application interface (API) with support for existing applications and sample applications for other supported profiles. It is designed to simplify the development of new applications. The initial release of XTNDConnect Blue SDK for Windows provides the protocol and profile support for Object Push. Synchronization, Dial-up networking, Fax and LAN Access are supported via the serial port profile. An HCI WDM driver software development kit (SDK) allows for easy integration with Bluetooth-enabled hardware.
