Metrocall, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCLL), one of the country's largest wireless data and messaging companies, and TrafficStation, Inc., the leading provider of traffic and traveler information services via the Internet and wireless devices, today announced a partnership that will result in significant time savings and improved productivity for millions of commuters and businesses across North America.
The partnership couples the latest in two-way wireless messaging services with real-time, route-specific traffic and routing information. The result will be a unique, personalized service whereby subscribers will receive instantaneous updates as well as on-demand routing solutions that enable them to by-pass problem areas and give them peace-of-mind in critical travel circumstances.
In addition, the companies will collaborate to develop and deliver position-based traffic and traveler information services that leverage networking capabilities and device-based positioning initiatives.
A nationwide 1999 survey by the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) found that traffic congestion costs the nation's economy loses over $65 billion in lost productivity and $9 billion in fuel due to the high traffic.
The partnership between Metrocall and TrafficStation will address this market opportunity with innovative services that address the current base of millions of one-way pagers while providing progressively more sophisticated services through Metrocall's innovative two-way platforms and network services.
The agreement will provide for the bundling of TrafficStation services with all Metrocall two-way pagers, with additional options for enhanced services available on a subscription basis.
Users will be able to set their traffic and routing preferences via www.trafficstation.com, while Metrocall's two-way networking capabilities enable the delivery of traffic notification services to subscribers on-demand.
Metrocall provides local, regional and nationwide wireless data and messaging coverage, including service within the top 1,000 markets of the United States. These metropolitan areas suffer from significant traffic congestion daily and are ideal areas to introduce the wireless TrafficStation alerts.
