Microcell Solutions and Royal Bank Offer Wireless Financial Services

Royal Bank (NYSE:RY)(TSE:RY.) customers now have another easy and practical way of carrying out their banking using their Fido handset.

Microcell Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:MICT)(TSE:MTI.B.), national provider of Fido(R) Personal Communications Services (PCS), and Royal Bank, today announced that they will jointly offer wireless transactional banking services beginning today.

Royal Bank Mobile Banking will be made available through Fido's Access Finances(TM). The service provides customers with the ability to access information on their bank accounts through their Fido wireless handsets, as well as perform a range of transactions, such as:

--pay bills;

--check the balances of their chequing and savings accounts, lines of credit, and Visa credit card accounts; --check the last five transactions for their chequing and savings accounts, and Visa credit card accounts;

--transfer funds between accounts;

--view the top foreign exchange rates;

--view current Royal Bank prime rates;

--rapidly contact a Royal Bank customer service representative.

"Increasingly, consumers want to add the benefit of mobility to services they use on a daily basis," said Mr. Fulvio Bussandri, President and Chief Operating Officer, Microcell Solutions Inc. "Access Finances is another demonstration of Fido's commitment to making their life easier. Microcell is proud to offer this new service to its customers and to those of one of the largest financial institutions in Canada."

"Royal Bank Mobile Banking extends the reach of royalbank.com and our online services to the digital wireless phone," said Tom Wolf, senior vice president of eBusiness at Royal Bank. "This allows our customers to conduct their transactions instantly and securely, whenever and wherever it is most convenient."

Royal Bank Mobile Banking is the only wireless banking service in Canada to use Fido's smart card technology to protect customer passwords. The handset's smart card is also used to store the customer's account and bill payee list. This allows customers to quickly initiate functions such as bill payment before connecting to the wireless network to execute the transaction. This timesaving feature is unique among Canadian wireless banking services.

Like other Fido services, Access Finances is very easy to use. The handset display allows users to navigate and perform activities quickly and the banking menus are fully integrated into the main handset menu. As the service can be used with most existing Fido handsets, the vast majority of current customers do not need to purchase a new handset to access the service.

To activate Access Finances, current Fido customers must simply purchase a kit at the cost of $25. New customers can take advantage of this service by purchasing the Royal Bank-Fido in a box for $75, which includes a Nokia 5190 handset. Access Finances is offered to Fido customers who subscribe to a monthly airtime package and can be accessed in all areas covered by Microcell's PCS network in Canada. The service will be billed at 20 cents per request, starting December 16, 2000.

Royal Bank's Mobile Banking is offered to customers who subscribe to telephone or online banking service. The service is included free of charge with those services.
