MindSurf Selects Pilot School for Pre-K-12 Wireless Education Program

Maryland High School Early Adopter of Affordable Mobile Computing Infrastructure

MindSurf(TM), the mobile computing infrastructure company for the pre-K-12 market segment, today announced that River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland, will serve as the first school in its pilot program. Through this new partnership, MindSurf will seamlessly link a group of select ninth-grade students with their teacher via wireless handheld devices, providing a rich, collaborative learning environment. MindSurf is the $70 million joint venture of Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLVN), Aether Systems (Nasdaq: AETH) and Critical Path (Nasdaq: CPTH).

"At River Hill High School, we recognize the importance of technology and the expanding role it plays in today's classroom. As a result, we strive to provide our teachers and student body with the necessary resources and tools to optimize their learning and overall schooling experience," said Scott Pfeifer, Principal of River Hill High School. "We are initially implementing the MindSurf solution in one ninth-grade English class to improve classroom dynamics between student and teacher as well as foster improved learning outside the class environment. We look forward to implementing this school business partnership as an important educational initiative."

"Unlike attempts by hardware manufacturers to force their computers into schools, MindSurf works closely with educators to deliver valuable tools for both the classroom and the broader school community," said David Long, Vice President of Product Development for MindSurf. "River Hill's diversity makes it a valuable school business partnership site. The students and teaching staff will be instrumental in shaping the future of our products."

MindSurf will integrate its wireless-computing platform into the River Hill academic environment providing a broad range of educational applications, communications capabilities and student productivity tools. The school business partnership will provide students with electronic books, school specific content, educational tools such as a graphing calculator, dictionary, and thesaurus, and access to select Internet research and reference sites. In addition, the MindSurf platform supports one-to-one and one-to-many communications allowing teachers to send homework assignments, course schedules, and school specific events to students. Each application will be rigorously tested and refined within the River Hill environment. Broader school-wide business partnerships will be implemented later this fall.

To foster the development of additional educational resources, MindSurf is building a network of application developers and content providers that will augment its core applications.
