Open Port Technology Unveils IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite

Enables Mobile Email Device Users to Print, View, Forward, Delete, or Listen to Both Email Messages and Attachments

Open Port Technology(r), Inc., a global provider of Internet infrastructure messaging solutions, today unveiled IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite, a wireless messaging platform that enables service providers to extend their existing Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) mobile email solutions to include true attachment management. IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite is the first carrier-class platform to enable users to read, print, forward, delete, or listen to not only their email messages, but also attachments directly from their wireless device. The first release of the product, designed to support Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) mobile phones, is being demonstrated September 27-29 at PCIA Global Exchange in Chicago (McCormick Place, booth #1039).

Until now, carrier service offerings have enabled subscribers to read email messages, and any email attachments were not recognized or handled at all. With IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite, users can manage their email, including attachments, through any of the following options:

“Mobile Messaging Suite is the culmination of our strategic vision,” said Randy Storch, chief executive officer and president of Open Port Technology. “We have built IP LaunchPad to be a complete messaging platform capable of bridging the IP, PSTN and mobile networks. Mobile Messaging Suite, along with our Voicemail Suite and Fax Suite, makes it possible for people to manage their breadth of messages. From something as simple as faxing from your PC, to listening to email attachments on your mobile device of choice, IP LaunchPad enables true anytime, anywhere, any device messaging.”
“Open Port’s technology makes it possible to use a mobile phone not only as a screen for reading email, but also as a remote control for managing electronic documents,” said Eric Arnum, editor of Messaging Online (www.messagingonline.com), an e-newsletter covering the worldwide messaging industry. “Using this product, you can see what messages are incoming, and then you can decide how you want to manage them, whether that’s to listen to them on your mobile phone, send them to a PC for viewing on a larger screen, or forward them to a nearby fax machine for printing. It’s the ideal solution for using a small, mobile device to manage documents, both large and small.”

Open Port released IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite for WAP enabled mobile phones for demonstration at PCIA Global Exchange. Support of expanded trials and additional popular wireless email devices, such as Palm and BlackBerry, is planned for later this year.

WAP Technology

WAP is an open and global standard for mobile Internet usage that enables new interactive services for devices such as wireless/cellular phones and pagers. WAP has emerged rapidly worldwide, and, in deploying WAP-based services, Open Port will further extend its global reach. According to International Data Corporation, mobile Internet usage is expected to grow to more than 50 million users in 2004.

With IP LaunchPad Mobile Messaging Suite, service providers can enhance the value of their existing infrastructure and offer functionality in the digital cellular arena while evolving to new digital mobile technologies, such as WAP.
