The first interactive games for GPRS handsets

Ericsson France and WStadium have signed partnership agreement to develop the first multiplayer sport games based on GPRS network technology.

This partnership gathers Ericsson competencies in networks and GPRS handsets as well as its knowledge in mobile applications, and WStadium know-how regarding interactive games on mobiles.

The games jointly designed and developed by the two companies will be tested on Ericsson France testing platform (GATE) that has been operating in Châtenay-Malabry for six months. At first, games download will be possible from PC emulators until GPRS handsets launching. In a few weeks, the GATE platform should allow also to test the games on UMTS networks and devices.

We make available to partners such as WStadium the means to create and develop successful applications, explained Franck Bouétard, Director of Marketing and product support at Ericsson France, our final objective is to propose the widest range of services and turn-key applications to operators ». 

WStadium is a French mobile entertainment start-up company which designs develops and markets games around sport for any wireless devices (mobile phones/PDA).

By gathering the worlds of mobile telephony, Internet and video games WStadium aims to be a leading entertainment mobile applications provider and invents the « sports virtual event » concept.
