The Standard Expands Wireless Capabilities; Joining Forces with OracleMobile and ScreamingMedia, The Standard Delivers News and Analysis on the Internet Economy to Wireless Devices

Standard Media International ("The Standard") announced today that it will be providing to its audience of Internet Business Strategists more powerful access to The Standard's news and information on the Internet Economy through wireless devices. Tapping into a wireless site developed by ScreamingMedia and OracleMobile, The Standard's community can obtain breaking news, company information and financial updates today on Web-enabled phones at http://thestandard.com. In the future, The Standard's wireless site will also be available on other handheld devices such as Palms and personal digit assistants (PDA's).

According to Gartner Group, there will be more than one billion mobile devices in use by 2003. Preparing for this wireless future, The Standard joined forces with OracleMobile, the premier wireless application service provider, and ScreamingMedia, the leading global provider of content infrastructure, syndication and services, to develop a wireless access point for its audience. As the flagship customer of ScreamingMedia and OracleMobile's newly formed alliance (see separate release), The Standard enlisted these cutting-edge experts to enable it to deliver the most timely and critical information on the Internet Economy to its users, whether wired or wireless.

As of today, The Standard's wireless site is available to mobile readers via Web-enabled devices. Users can simply bookmark the site's URL, http://thestandard.com, and from their Web-enabled phone access the latest headlines, briefs and full-text articles from TheStandard.com. In addition to breaking news, mobile users can retrieve up-to-the-minute stock quotes, market indices and movers by exchange. Wireless users can search through archives of news and analysis, and pull detailed information and metrics on Internet Economy players and companies.

Also available on the site are the latest editions of The Standard's Media Grok(TM), a daily newsletter critiquing business-related Internet news stories published around the world, and Market Movers, a daily analysis of Internet stock performance. All content on the wireless site will be updated real time, matching changes to The Standard's primary Web site, www.TheStandard.com.

Commenting on The Standard's new wireless capabilities, John Battelle, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard, said, "The Standard's goal is to deliver the most timely and thorough news and business intelligence on the Internet Economy to our audience of Internet Business Strategists, anytime, anywhere. The wireless site we've developed with the expertise of OracleMobile and ScreamingMedia is the most logical next step in achieving this goal."
