Aether Systems Announces AirLoom Service Named Premier Web-to-Wireless Provider for USATODAY.com

Aether, with Partner AlterEgo Networks, Will Use AirLoom Mobile Internet Adaptation Service to Bring Content to Multiple Devices & Networks

Aether Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: AETH), a leading provider of wireless data products and services, today announced that USATODAY.com has selected its AirLoom(TM)service to adapt the online news publisher's content for optimal display on any type of wired and wireless web device, including PC web browsers, web-enabled cellular telephones, personal digital assistants and Internet Appliances.

USATODAY.com, the No. 1 newspaper site and a leading general interest news site on the Internet, serves more than 25 million monthly visitors. USATODAY.com chose AirLoom, an Aether service, in partnership with AlterEgo Networks, to adapt its online content for distribution to dozens of its third-party clients, including retail web sites and wireless carriers and services.

"Using AirLoom, Aether will allow us to more quickly and easily extend USATODAY.com's brand and content beyond the desktop PC to every type of wired and wireless device," said Jeff Webber, senior vice president and publisher for USATODAY.com. "Aether also is uniquely equipped to help us expand to increasingly sophisticated wireless services."

Aether will provide adaptation, delivery and support services for USATODAY.com's content using AirLoom, which launched Sept. 11, 2000. AirLoom is the industry's first complete adaptation and delivery solution for extending Internet or corporate intranet content applications and services to the full range of wireless devices.

In addition to content adaptation and delivery, Aether will assist USATODAY.com in developing and delivering future custom wireless services, potentially including personalized alerts, enhanced search capability and mobile commerce applications.

"USATODAY.com is among the top tier of Internet-savvy newspaper publishers who, having found success online, intuitively understand the value of rapidly moving into wireless," said Evan Deoul, Vice President, Wireless Internet Services of Aether.

"We're pleased that USATODAY.com has recognized our AirLoom service and Aether's wireless data expertise as the best available solution. Aether looks forward to helping one of the most compelling content web sites deliver its outstanding content to an even broader mobile audience."

This is Aether's second engagement with USA TODAY this year. In May Aether joined with its strategic consulting partner Proxicom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PXCM) to assist USA TODAY in developing a wireless strategy aimed at business travelers.
