Bantu, Inc. Announces Mobile Messenger Joins Aether's Mobile Enterprise Partner Program

Bantu Previews First Interoperable Wireless Instant Messenger at Internet World

Bantu, Inc., the leader in Web-based instant communications, announced the launch of a Beta program for Bantu Mobile Messenger today at Internet World Fall 2000.

Bantu's Mobile Messenger is the first wireless instant messenger that interoperates with other IM networks such as MSN and Yahoo! Messengers. The Mobile Messenger is an extension of Bantu Messenger, the leading Web-based IM application private-labeled for businesses, web sites and ISPs.

In bringing the Mobile Messenger to market, Bantu will leverage the power of a partnership with Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH). The partnership agreement makes possible joint development and marketing endeavors as well as inclusion of Aether's award-winning ScoutWare data synchronization and device management software as part of Mobile Messenger.

The Bantu Mobile Messenger will be a critical business communications tool as the penetration of Internet-ready mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDA) like the PalmPilot and BlackBerry increases among business users.

Bantu Mobile Messenger responds to business needs by allowing Web-based businesses to give users access to their IM accounts from any WAP-enabled cell phone or modem-enabled Palm OS PDA. Mobile Messenger users will be able to exchange messages with others who are logged on at their computer or mobile device.

"Bantu's wireless offering helps users stay connected for urgent, timely communication, while maintaining their privacy and mobility," said Larry Schlang, president and CEO of Bantu, Inc. "The Bantu Mobile Messenger not only improves internal business communication, it also helps Web-based businesses extend their brand beyond the Web site."

With the launch of the Mobile Messenger, Bantu Messenger is first to market with key features of wireless IM interoperability, mobile presence integration, and device independent IM. Mobile Messenger users can log onto their Web-based IM accounts from the road and share information.

Users will be able to manage their presence status, which is displayed to other users to indicate if a person is available, busy or unavailable. With these features, access to employees, customers, or family members will be instantaneous, but also controlled.

Bantu's Web-based architecture also makes the Mobile Messenger device-independent while preserving the user's contact lists, preference settings, and alert profiles, regardless of the device used to access the IM account.

"The Bantu Mobile Messenger extends the value of IM on the Web while retaining the same characteristics of security, interoperability and functionality that our clients have come to expect," added Schlang.
