Oberthur Partners With Baltimore to Deliver Global E-Commerce Security Solutions

Partnership to Deliver Compelling Security Solutions for Internet and Mobile Commerce

Oberthur Card Systems, one of the world's leading suppliers of smart cards, and Baltimore Technologies (Nasdaq:BALT)(LSE:BLM), a global leader in e-security, today announced that Oberthur joined the Baltimore TrustedWorld Partner Program.

Oberthur's AuthentIC smart card and Baltimore's award-winning, e-security products, including Baltimore UniCERT, UniCERT Advanced Registration Module (ARM) and Baltimore Telepathy, offer a complete range of solutions to enable secure Internet and mobile commerce.

A July 2000 Gartner Group research brief noted that smart cards are poised for enormous growth over the coming years.

"Network security is the fastest-growing smart card application. The rise of e-commerce and concerns about Internet security have encouraged the adoption of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions. The smart card is becoming an important part of this solution because it provides a portable and secure medium for certificates ... key generation and data encryption." (Gartner Group Research Brief, July 2000).

In addition to basic product interoperability, Baltimore and Oberthur work on a number of joint initiatives to deliver solutions for Identrus environments and market places. This will enable leading banks and financial institutions to rapidly roll-out secure m- and e-commerce services.

The integrated capabilities of Baltimore and Oberthur will improve the security, reliability and scalability of e-business practices.

"Our partnership with Baltimore is an excellent example of interoperability and open platforms in the cards mobile and electronic commerce arenas that Oberthur has supported for many years," said Marc Bertin, director of e-Business for Oberthur Card Systems.

"Working with Baltimore is an important step to long-held principals of our company in offering increased security to meet the demands emerging as a result of electronic and mobile commerce."

"Building and delivering trusted e-commerce services offers considerable growth prospects for financial institutions," commented John Fallon, director of Technical Market Development at Baltimore Technologies.

This new compelling solution will be jointly offered by Oberthur and Baltimore to financial institutions, corporations and mobile operators worldwide to enable multi-channel trusted services."
