Psion Enhances Mobile E-Business Devices With Extended Systems' Remote Server Synchronization and Wireless Connectivity Tools

Psion PLC today announced that it has teamed with Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile data management and wireless connectivity products, to bring a complete set of remote server synchronization capabilities to Psion's mobile e-business devices.

XTNDConnect Server data synchronization and management software allows mobile workers using Psion wireless devices to directly access, exchange and manage information between their devices and back-end enterprise information systems while on the road. Thus, mobile workers with Psion information devices, including the enterprise-level netBook and also the Revo+, 5mx and Series 7, will now be able to access and share up-to-the-minute enterprise data and personal information --including agenda, contacts and email -- anytime, anywhere.

Offering additional convenience, is Extended Systems' XTNDAccess infrared connectivity adapters, which give Psion mobile device users, who have returned to the office, the ability to wirelessly connect to printers, PCs and corporate networks.

Extended Systems and Psion will collaborate on worldwide technical and marketing programs to provide robust end-to-end solutions for their customer base. This will include seminars and corporate presentations that will inform enterprise customers about mobile communications and information management trends and help them to define and develop their own strategies.

"When mobile workers are out on the road, it is essential that there is both timely and efficient sharing of information. They need to circulate changes not only to task-critical enterprise data, but also vital personal tools such as agenda and contacts applications with colleagues back in the office," says Claes Bergstedt, deputy managing director of Psion Teklogix PLC. "Giving our wireless information devices remote synchronization options connects the whole business network, providing everyone in the enterprise with up-to-the minute information. It enables workers on the road, and those in the office, to heighten customer service and optimize overall productivity."

"As mobile computing technology continues to advance, we believe the need for a reliable set of tools has become increasingly vital and is now a serious business application," says Steve Simpson, CEO and president of Extended Systems. "XTNDConnect Server offers a sophisticated synchronization and management solution and Extended Systems is delighted to be working with Psion in the fast growing wireless information device market."
