Pumatech and XcelleNet Introduce All-in-One Mobile Management Solution for the Enterprise Market

Strategic Relationship Results In Best-of-Breed Solution That Makes It Easy For IT To Manage Handheld Devices

XcelleNet, Inc., the leader in mobile resource management, and Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of the software infrastructure for the mobile Internet, announced today a strategic agreement whereby Pumatech will sell an integrated solution that combines XcelleNet's mobile management product, Afaria(TM), and Pumatech's Intellisync(R) synchronization software, creating the Enterprise Intellisync Mobile Management Edition. The all-in-one solution will benefit organizations with mobile deployments, giving their IT administrators the ability to manage the distribution of the software required for synchronizing desktop PIMs and groupware applications with Palm OS(R) handhelds and Windows(R) Powered Pocket PCs or Windows CE devices.

"Enterprise Intellisync Mobile Management Edition represents a big leap forward in addressing the IT department's need for a centralized solution for managing handhelds and Pocket PCs," said Steve Nicol, Pumatech's executive vice president of sales and business development. "IT has been reluctant to support handheld devices, because they want control over the types of applications that are installed, particularly those that are used in critical business processes. Also, they need to ensure that the apps and their related content are appropriately updated without requiring heavy involvement of help desk personnel. Our combined solution addresses these issues, helping to keep end users more productive and lowering the cost of maintaining the handheld devices. Over time, we will also extend this solution to cell phones."

The Pumatech-XcelleNet relationship commenced in late 1999 when the two companies announced that Pumatech would bundle Afaria management capabilities into its Enterprise Intellisync product offerings. XcelleNet's Afaria provides a full suite of management tools, including the ability to rapidly deploy handheld applications across thousands of these mobile devices. Also, with Afaria's inventory management capabilities, a systems administrator can track both the hardware and software associated with each device. Pumatech's popular Intellisync PC-to-handheld synchronization software keeps an organization constantly up-to-date with direct, two-way synchronization of e-mail, calendar, contacts, and to-do lists with personal information management (PIM), contact management and groupware applications. The complete Enterprise Intellisync Mobile Management Edition consolidates control of handheld devices, decreases the total cost of ownership, accelerates user productivity, and improves overall efficiency of important business processes.

"Business-critical applications are being aggressively deployed to the rapidly growing population of mobile devices, causing support and control issues for IT managers," said Joan Herbig, XcelleNet's CEO. "By integrating Pumatech's Intellisync software into our Afaria product, we can immediately provide our customers with the best-of-breed synchronization tool to complement Afaria's mobile resource management capabilities."
