ePhysician Launches Handheld Version of Healthcare Industry's Premier Drug Content Resource

ePhysician A to Z Drug Facts with Facts and Comparisons Works as a Stand-Alone or Integrated with ePhysician's ePad ePrescribing Application, Reducing the Risk of Medication Errors

ePhysician(TM), the first company to improve the experience of practicing medicine and the quality of patient care by combining wireless, handheld technology and the Internet, today launched ePhysician A to Z Drug Facts with Facts and Comparisons(R). The product offers doctors real time access to the health care profession's most widely used and trusted source of unbiased, objective information on 3,000 drugs and 26 therapeutic classes in one, convenient handheld application.

ePhysician A to Z Drug Facts is a handheld version of Facts and Comparison's desk reference that is already used by more than 200,000 healthcare professionals. It features an easy-to-use menu-driven interface for its objective, comprehensive database. In addition to quickly finding drugs by generic or brand name or by therapeutic class, doctors can easily search for indications, contraindications and warnings, drug/drug interactions and adverse reactions. They can also view detailed drug dosing information, lab interferences, and mechanism of action.

Facts and Comparisons data is recommended by state pharmacy boards across the United States. It has become synonymous with drug information that is comparative, comprehensive, authoritative and objective. In a recent independent customer survey, 93 percent of Facts and Comparisons users surveyed gave the Facts and Comparisons' drug content reference the highest possible rating for quality and accuracy of drug information.

Today's launch is the first in a series of drug content resources ePhysician plans to make available to doctors in an effort to significantly reduce the risk of medication errors by capturing the volumes of information on drug indications, dosage and interaction into one, readily accessible source.

A landmark report issued by the Institute of Medicine in November 1999 documented that "errors related to medication orders and prescriptions and to administration of medications kill up to 7,000 Americans annually, both in and out of hospitals." As one answer to this problem, the Institute for Safe Medical Practices in April 2000 stated in a white paper that "most clinicians still write prescriptions by hand, utilizing memory for drug names, dosage strengths, and directions. It is an archaic system, and it is time to change it -- by automating the prescribing function."

"Having access to critical drug information, while sending prescriptions electronically, will dramatically reduce the likelihood of medical errors," said Dr. Eric Sohn, family practice physician and Medical Informatics board member at the North Spokane Family Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. "Having access to both ePhysician A to Z Drug Facts with Facts and Comparisons and ePhysician's electronic prescribing product, ePad, is like having an 800-page reference book and a fax machine in the palm of my hand."

Doctors can also easily and electronically send prescriptions to pharmacies using ePhysician's prescribing application, ePad. ePad is the first and only product that is fully integrated with top practice management systems, compliant with proposed HIPPA security regulations, and capable of 100% electronic transmission of scripts connecting physicians to any pharmacy across the U.S.

"ePhysician A to Z Drug Facts with Facts and Comparisons is a perfect electronic companion for doctors who want to both reduce the risk of errors and find unbiased drug information quickly and accurately," said Stuart Weisman, M.D., chief executive officer and founder of ePhysician. "Coupled with ePad, doctors now have a more safe and effective way to prescribe medications for their patients."
