FieldCentrix qualifies the Birdstep Database Engine for use with its Microsoft CE® -based software

Birdstep Technology ASA announced today that FieldCentrix™ Inc., the leader in wireless Internet-based software solutions for the field service industry, has evaluated and qualified the Birdstep Database Engine for use in its FX Mobile™ field service management software.

FieldCentrix is the world’s first provider of standardized software to support field service operations through the use of Internet and wireless technologies. FX Mobile is a module of the FieldCentrix Enterprise suite of field service automation software. It allows field technicians, using handheld computers and wireless data communications, to communicate in real-time with the office, operations management, the sales team, and other technicians.

Large content-rich databases will be stored on the field technicians’ Windows CE-based handheld computers and managed by the Birdstep Database Engine. The capacity will only be limited by the size of the storage media on the handheld.

FieldCentrix qualified the Birdstep Database Engine because of its performance. Benchmarks showed that the Birdstep Database Engine was up to 18 times faster than other alternatives. The patented atomization technology of the Birdstep Database Engine, specifically designed for wireless information devices and embedded systems, provides a dramatic increase in both storage efficiency and search speed when compared to traditional relational and flat file databases.

“After spending six months evaluating other products we selected the Birdstep Database Engine based on its excellent performance. We look forward to working with them,” said Simon Chan, FieldCentrix Product Manager for Technology Partners.
