Finline Releases New Multi-Service Broadband Wireless Solution for Voice, Video, and Data

Positioned to Meet the Needs of Regions Requiring Rapid, Cost Effective Telecom Infrastructure Development

Finline Technologies Ltd. (CDNX:FIN.) ("Finline" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has released its new multi-service Broadband Wireless Access Solution, using MMDS frequencies.

Utilizing both proprietary and outside integrated components, the system, named "Trilogy" is believed to be the first available fully integrated end-to-end MMDS solution for the simultaneous provision of telephony, digital video, and high-speed Internet services.

Multi-Point Multi-Channel Distribution Service or MMDS is a platform that is flexible, scalable and easy to install. A high performance alternative to wired access networks including cable and DSL, MMDS offers the benefits of quick deployment and immediate returns for network operators.

The Trilogy system also offers plug-and-play Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). This enables quick deployment because there is no installation procedure, no configuration and no intrusive equipment to deal with - resulting in minimal entry costs and an immediate return on investment.

The Trilogy system is targeted towards countries and regions which require the rapid, economical provision of communications infrastructure.

"We are very excited about the potential for the Trilogy solution in the world market. In the near term, we will demonstrate the capabilities of the system to prospective customers both at Finline's facilities in Canada, and in the field. Included will be a demo in Havana, Cuba as part of the development of our Joint Venture with Grupo de la Electronica," said Einar Fiskvatn, President & CEO.

"We see the Trilogy MMDS system as a milestone in wireless communications worldwide. I am extremely impressed with its performance, especially for telephony, in which long distance calls placed over the system are of superb quality. We look forward to deploying the Trilogy solution in Cuba," said Daniel Fernandez, Vice-President, Grupo de la Electronica.

Digital Video Broadcast

The Digital Television broadcasting revolution is changing our world. Viewers are getting a spectacular choice of programs with new channels being added all the time.

Broadcasters have unprecedented opportunities to generate more revenue with exciting new functions like Video-on-Demand, Electronic Program Guides (EPGs), Interactive TV, and High Definition Television (HDTV) with hi-fidelity sound. Finline is leading this revolution with its end-to-end MPEG-2 DVB digital broadcast system.

Better Quality, Less Bandwidth

Finline brings the latest MPEG-2 DVB digital encoders, multiplexers and modulators - letting operators make the most of their bandwidth while delivering the best quality picture. Finline's 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 encoding technology lets the operator adjust bit-rates in real time to enhance picture quality. Viewers at home will be able to receive high-quality, crystal-clear pictures.

Conditional Access, Smart Cards and Smart Security

A Smart card based Conditional Access System (CAS) ensures that pay TV operators earn revenues because subscribers watch only what they pay for and pay for what they watch. Subscribers benefit too, with feature like Pay-Per-View (PPV), entertainment and interactive events. Finline's Conditional Access solution provides optimal security now and in the future.

High Efficiency Multiplexing / Re-Multiplexing

Finline's Multiplexers/Re-multiplexers are DVB compliant, providing cost effective MPEG-2, DVB stream multiplexing and efficient re-multiplexing. A Statistical Multiplexing mode is optionally available for efficient channel bit rate utilization. The multiplexer can support head-end functions such as Conditional Access System, PSI/SI and EPG generator. The unit multiplexes up to 15 Single programs and/or Multi-programs using MPEG-2 transport streams.

Powerful Subscriber Management System

Finline provides powerful subscriber management enabling operators to offer the highest levels of service expected by pay-TV subscribers. Channel management helps manage hundreds of channels in the system.

High-Speed Wireless Internet

Internet and data network traffic growth has created demand for cost-effective, high-speed communications, as subscribers increasingly rely on content-rich applications and remote access to data networks. Finline is at the forefront of this internet revolution with its Wireless Data Hub.

Complete Solution

The Internet / data Hub is configured as a multi-slot rack-mounted chassis that supports up to 2,000 end user modems. It performs all transmit (Tx), receive (Rx), I/O, and control functions using hot-pluggable modules. The Hub supports one 30Mbps (6MHz) downstream Tx module, up to twelve 2.56 Mbps (1.8MHz) upstream Rx modules, up to 10x10BaseT Ethernet interfaces (5 Dual 10BaseT Modules), or up to 4 100BaseT Ethernet modules. The Hub can support up to 2 ATM OC-3 Modules for fiber connection for solve/sort networks. The upstream channels can be added on an incremental, hot-insertion basis, enabling an operator to respond rapidly to system faults.

Scalable for Future Growth

The data Hub gives service providers flexible configuration options to accommodate a wide array of network architectures and growth in wireless subscribers. Operators can implement the perfect configuration for today's needs with ample expansion capacity for tomorrow. Finline's modular approach means the system can be deployed on a limited budget, then upgraded and scaled as subscriber penetration increases.

Wireless Telephony

Never before has there been a greater opportunity for the provision of voice services via wireless solution. Most of the world still does not have access to reliable telephone service, if any service at all. Widespread deployment to date has been limited by heavy investment in last mile infrastructure and long deployment time that is required by a traditional in-the-ground telephone system. In order to rapidly increase teledensity, developing regions in particular require a solution that is both cost effective and avoids the time consuming process of laying subscriber lines. Finline's MMDS Wireless Telephony Gateway represents the solution to this problem.

Fixed Wireless Telephony

Finline's voice Gateway enables telecom service providers to provide high quality voice service over wireless networks. With the system, operators can generate new revenues and build market shares while leveraging existing investments in packet switching and circuit-switching infrastructures.

Flexible Modular Design

The Gateway is a modular and scalable system that supports up to 16 cards in a standard 19" chassis. The Gateway incorporate four types of cards: Central processing modules (FIN-CPM 1), Octal E1/T1 modules (FIN-OEM 1) with 1 E1/T1 channels, ATM interface modules (FIN-AIM 1), and DSP/IP modules (FIN-DIM 1). The Gateway it can be configured with almost any combination of these cards. The Gateway supports redundancy of the central processing modules and built-in power supply modules. The system uses advanced V5.2 and GR303 interfaces, designed to meet operators' specific requirements, allows flexible system deployment, and facilitates future network expansion.
