Fujitsu Announces New Mobile Hard Drives at 10GB per Platter

New Mobile Series Offers Improved Speeds, Increased Buffer, and Excellent Reliability

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), one of the world's leading suppliers of hard drives and computer peripherals, today announced the introduction of a new line of 2.5-inch mobile hard drives at 10GB per platter. The new mobile series includes capacities of 10, 15, 20, and 30GB for notebook PCs and emerging market applications. The drives have a fast 28.7MB/s transfer rate and an average seek time of 12ms making them ideal for intensive mobile computing applications.

"The new mobile series from Fujitsu offers fast, reliable, quality drives," commented Joel Hagberg, Vice President of Product Management, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "The demand for 2.5" drives continues to grow in both notebook PCs and emerging markets and Fujitsu supports a multitude of mobile applications with this superior offering."

The new mobile drives from Fujitsu are available in 9.5mm and 12.5mm z-heights depending on the capacity point. With an Ultra ATA/66 interface, 4200RPM spindle speed, and an increased buffer of 2MB, these drives offer exceptional performance and a high-level of reliability.

Superior Design and Performance

Fujitsu's mobile drives provide industry-leading quality by leveraging technology traditionally used only in high-end enterprise drives. The new mobile series features intelligent power management technology that maximizes battery life by regulating the drives power requirements. With up to 700G of non-operating shock tolerance, the new mobile series is ideal for rugged applications. In addition, the drives incorporate a repeatable run-out compensation feature that helps avoid data loss due to "disk shift" by electronically compensating for errant mechanical movement.

Availability

The MHL2xxxAT Series (12.5mm z-height) and MHM2xxxAT Series (9.5mm z-height) consist of four 2.5-inch mobile disk drives, all of which are available at 4200RPM. The drives are currently shipping to OEMs for evaluations and began shipping into distribution in 4Q00.
