Kuulalaakeri is launching the Mobile Artist Platform (MAP). Through the Mobile Artist Platform system, mobile phone and service operators as well as portals will be able to offer personalized mobile phone services. MAP will make it possible to personalize ringing tones, design logos and picture messages. Ringing tones and logos are downloaded through a Web, SMS or WAP service.
MAP is a total service that, in addition to logo and tone editors, includes the SMS Gateway, which allows wireless connections to various internet, intranet and extranet services. The SMS Gateway enables operator-independent transference of text messages from content providers to recipients’ terminals. The editors and the gateway are combined in the MAP to form a complete functional unit. The MAP’s SMS is UNIX based, which means that the system is particularly suitable for large corporate environments.
“The product has been standardized in cooperation with major customers and distributors in Finland and elsewhere in Western Europe. It has also been manufactured to conform to most of the GSM network protocols used in Western Europe,” says Kristiina Sunell, Director of Kuulalaakeri’s Mobile Unit.
MAP will support future models
The first MAP system application to be released will be the Nokia Artist Set, which comprises two applications for Nokia’s mobile phones. The logo editor enables users to design operator logos, picture messages, start-up logos or caller group logos. The tone-editor allows users to compose new ring tones for their mobile phones. Nokia Artist Set features product support for the Nokia 5110 phone and newer models.
New Artist Sets, which will make it possible to personalize other mobile phones, such as the models manufactured by Siemens and Ericsson, will be released next. The system will also expand to other applications, such as phone configuration services (OTA). This means a service through which users receive the required settings as an SMS message directly to their phone.
The Mobile Artist Platform will strengthen Kuulalaakeri’s mobile product family. This year Kuulalaakeri launched the UNIX-based SMS Gateway and WAP Gateway software applications on the market. The aim of the company is to launch a complete software family for the telecommunications sector. In the future the company intends to develop services enabling the provision of content for entertainment and utility purposes.
