PocketMed Launches Handheld Computer Charge Capture Software for Physicians and Healthcare Systems

PocketMed, a leader in the handheld medical software field announced the release of PocketBilling(C) version 2.0 for the Palm OS(R). This user-friendly software allows practicing physicians to capture billing charges at the point-of-care, while potentially decreasing medical and billing errors.

PocketMed is a pioneer in the charge capture software field, developing a process that revolutionizes the way physicians can track billing and patients while making rounds. By using handheld computers and PocketBilling(C) software, physicians eliminate scribbling on pre-printed paper cards to track their patients, which leads to accurate, efficient billing and tracking.

PocketMed's president, Scott M. Strayer, MD, says, "PocketBilling(C) markedly increases total revenues, increases charge capture rates, and accelerates the accounts receivable cycle, while providing a simple interface for physicians to bill for and track their patients." A recent survey of several hundred current users found that PocketBilling increased revenues in 100 percent of practices surveyed.

The software is featured at the "Computers in Medicine" showcase in Williamsport, PA, where the Susquehanna Medical System has announced that it will deploy PocketBilling throughout its healthcare system. Several hundred physicians are being trained to use PocketBilling(C) during the conference. According to Tom Callahan, senior manager for physician services at Susquehanna Medical System, "By rolling this software out to our entire medical group, we believe that we will markedly decrease the number of lost charges for services performed in the hospital and in nursing homes. We also benefit by shortening the time between when the service is performed and when the bill is sent to the payer."

"What sets us apart from the competition is that our software is designed using our True Practice(TM) development process. Practicing physicians are involved in the design, programming, and deployment of the product at every step," said Strayer. "Most products currently on the market are designed by and for medical students and residents," he added.

While PocketBilling(C) is useful for residents and medical students for patient tracking, it has the added powerful feature of charge capture designed for physicians in practice. The software is currently HIPAA compliant, and will be updated as privacy regulations are published. A desktop version will be released in January 2001 that will interact with Microsoft(R) Access and leading practice management software.

PocketBilling(C) is available for instant download at www.pocketmed.org There is a 30-day demo version, and the full version software will retail for $49.99
