Sigma and Ericsson accelerate pace in wireless communications – new software simplifies development of Bluetooth applications

Sigma and Ericsson have signed a distribution agreement covering sales and support of Ericsson’s software Bluetooth HOST Stack. The software substantially enhances the efficiency of developing new Bluetooth applications.

On December 5-7, Sigma will participate in the international Bluetooth Developers Conference in San Jose, California, and will present its new cooperation regarding software from Ericsson. The more than 100 exhibitors at the conference include all the main players within wireless communications.

Sigma already cooperates with Ericsson involving other Bluetooth applications. Sigma Comtec AB distributes the Bluetooth Application Tool Kit for development as well as the Bluetooth Application and Training Tool Kit. In addition, Sigma and Ericsson are cooperative partners involving the Bluetooth Academy training program.

According to Sigma Comtec’s distribution agreement, sales and support of Bluetooth HOST Stack from Ericsson is included. Bluetooth HOST Stack facilitates wireless communications between, for example, laptop computers, other hand-held units, mobile telephones and digital cameras. The product, which is independent of operating systems and hardware, simplifies and increases the efficiency of developing Bluetooth applications and developers can focus on the functionality of their products.

"Users of Bluetooth HOST Stack are in a development phase and a short lead-time to product is extremely important. In addition to this new software complementing our earlier range of development tools for Bluetooth, this strengthens us as a global supplier of consulting services to more customers in more markets," says Jörgen Simonsson, President of Sigma Comtec.

Bluetooth wireless technology is a field undergoing rapid growth. According to market surveys conducted by IDC and Merrill Lynch, the sales of Bluetooth units will increase to the range of 700 million- 2.1 billion by 2005.
