ThinAirApps Announces Enhanced Version of Wireless Internet Platform

New Release Fulfills Customer Wishes, Builds on Industry Lead

ThinAirApps Inc., a pioneer in the development of wireless software applications and tools, today announced the availability of ThinAir Server(TM) 1.2. The new version includes feature and performance enhancements that strengthen ThinAir Server's position as a leading wireless application development platform for enterprises and service providers.

This new release builds on the success of earlier versions of ThinAir Server, a software platform that enables secure, real-time access to information from any wireless device. Out of the box, ThinAir Server gives enterprises the ability to access their critical Microsoft Exchange(R) and Lotus(R) Domino groupware data, including e-mail, calendars, and address books from any Palm-powered(TM), Pocket PC, RIM(R), or Symbian handheld, or any Internet-ready mobile phone. The included groupware access applications have been designed to give a full-featured, user-friendly experience optimized for each device. Mobile professionals have complete, immediate control over their essential groupware data, having nearly all of the capabilities that formerly were only possible from a wired personal computer thus allowing them to be more productive while traveling out of the office or anytime they are away from their desk.

Based on Java(TM) and architected to be distributable and scalable, ThinAir Server can be easily deployed in any corporate network behind the firewall or can be accessed via a hosted solution through one of ThinAirApps' many service provider partners. Security needs are met by supporting RSA's SSL encryption over the public Internet, providing a second layer of user authentication and permission-granting in addition to the enterprise's existing application authentication protocol, and minimizing mobile copies of sensitive corporate data as information is not automatically saved on the device after a session expiration.

While the groupware access applications give enterprises an immediately productive application, the ThinAir Server is a platform that can be used to extend other corporate applications wirelessly. Attendant to the new release of the server, the Wireless SDK for ThinAir Server has been updated with additional documentation and new samples for mobile database access applications. A Java developer can wirelessly enable any existing application that has an ODBC, JDBC, or XML interface or is built on Microsoft Exchange forms without having to learn new wireless network or device languages and protocols.

"ThinAir Server has tremendously increased productivity for our employees," said Aboo Talib, MIS Manager for U.S. Operations, Meteor Communications. "Our executives are continuously traveling and were unable to communicate with each other or to respond to the more than 400 e-mails they receive daily. ThinAir Server now allows them to communicate in real-time from all over the globe."

Enhancements for enterprise and service provider customers include:

-- Support for changing time zones while traveling;

-- Ability to customize e-mail signatures by site;

-- Ability to access multiple e-mail accounts from any device including personal e-mail from any ISP or ASP-hosted POP account;

-- Easier user management and greater usage logging for administrators;

-- Improved support for IMAP access to systems such as Novell GroupWise(R);

-- Support for full groupware access to Microsoft Exchange 2000.

"With this release of ThinAir Server, ThinAirApps continues its mission to provide customers with the best choice in a wireless platform that can meet their needs today and grow with them over time," said Will Meyer, director of product development at ThinAirApps. "We're striving to maintain our technology lead in the market and are extremely pleased with how many people are already enjoying the freedom that our software provides them."
