Ultra-portable and Powerful, New REX 6000 MicroPDA Redefines the Handheld Market

Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq:XIRC), the leading provider of mobile information access solutions, today redefined the personal digital assistant (PDA) category with its introduction of the new credit card-sized REX(R) 6000 MicroPDA. As the world's smallest, lightest, full-function MicroPDA, the REX 6000 device keeps mobile users in touch with essential information at any time, from any location.

"The amazingly small and powerful REX 6000 MicroPDA changes the way people keep track of their busy schedules and access information," said Christian Bubenheim, general manager, REX Business Unit for Xircom. "Xircom has taken the features that users most value in their PDA and fit them into a streamlined form factor that they won't think twice about carrying with them at all times."

The REX 6000 MicroPDA takes portability to a new level by fitting comfortably into a small purse, wallet or shirt pocket. A touch screen and stylus enables users to easily input their calendar, address book, to-do list information and memos. It stores thousands of contact names and records and notifies users of upcoming meetings and events. Featuring a sleek industrial design and stylish chrome finish, the REX 6000 MicroPDA complements the latest mobile phones and other portable devices.

"Xircom is carving out a new category in the competitive PDA market with the REX 6000 MicroPDA," said Jim Forbes, executive editor of DEMOletter, a newsletter that tracks innovations in the technology industry. "This device has set the mold for extreme portability, an essential feature for active consumers who need quick access to personal information wherever they go."

Xircom is also launching a new website, www.rex.net, in support of the new product. REX.net is a one-stop Internet information service that enables users to customize and download web content to the REX MicroPDA including news, stock quotes, sports and weather reports. It is designed to be the official destination site for REX MicroPDA users, providing product information, updates and services. Future expansion of the services platform, to be developed in conjunction with partners, will become a critical component of REX solutions in the future.

Information is synchronized between the REX device and a PC either by inserting it directly into a notebook PC Card slot, or by placing the REX device into a USB cradle connected to a desktop PC. It also synchronizes with Microsoft Outlook and other leading Personal Information Management (PIM) software packages.

Xircom worked with partners KPMG Consulting LLC and Brience to develop www.rex.net. KPMG Consulting, a leading Internet integration services company, provided the support for its business development, as well as a program management office to oversee the effort to achieve the launch date for www.rex.net. KPMG Consulting also provided expertise in the definition of the site structure and design, technical architecture, infrastructure and the resources for technical implementation. Brience, a leading provider of broadband and wireless Internet services, provided its Brience 2.0 Framework as the key component for adapting web content to the REX device. This technology will be critical as Xircom incorporates wireless functionality and services for the REX product line as it expands over the next year.
