Zebra Technologies Introduces Wireless LAN Connectivity in Mobile Receipt Printing

Zebra's New Cameo 3N Long Range RF Portable Printer Enables Users To Wirelessly Print Receipts at the Point-of-transaction

Zebra Technologies Corporation, the worldwide leader in bar code printing, today introduced the Cameo(TM) 3N three-inch portable receipt printer with wireless LAN connectivity.

The optional bi-directional magnetic card reader (MCR) and/or smart card reader enable users to perform credit card verification at the point-of-transaction, making it the ideal solution for remote point-of-sale receipt printing in retail and fast food restaurants.

The network-addressable Cameo 3N also is a powerful, cost-effective solution for demanding applications such as car rental return processing, airline curbside check-in, event and passenger ticketing, gaming transactions, route accounting and mobile printing. Designed with open architecture to facilitate "plug and play" in 802.11 network environments, the Cameo 3N is a powerful wireless solution for point-of-transaction mobile receipt printing.

"The Cameo 3N is rugged enough to stand up to the rigors of a traditional retail environment, and its wireless capabilities enable users to print with real-time access to essential data on the host system," said Zebra marketing director for Mobile Printing Solutions Robert Danahy. "These benefits enable companies to keep up with the quick pace of business by ensuring that their mobile printing workforce is armed with the most up-to-date information available."

Weighing only 1.9 lbs. (.86kg), the Cameo 3N is durable enough to carry anywhere for convenient, point-of-transaction mobile receipt printing. It prints receipts with bar codes, text and graphics at three inches per second (ips/76.2mm).

The Cameo 3N, using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), transmits and receives data at 2.4GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum communication at rates of 1Mbps to 2Mbps in networks using Communications Standard 802.11.

Featuring a "clamshell" design, direct thermal technology and a paper-out sensor, users can take advantage of easy drop-in paper loading. With its long-lasting NiMH battery, the Cameo 3N prints in excess of eight hours on a single battery charge, enabling employees to complete an entire shift without stopping to change the battery.

The Cameo 3N includes 1MB of non-volatile flash memory for downloadable programs, receipt formats, scalable fonts and graphics, maximizing throughput speed; and also supports major bar code symbologies including two-dimensional PDF-417 and MaxiCode.

The Cameo 3N will be available in February 2001 through authorized Zebra Mobile Printer Solutions specialists. The Cameo 3N will be demonstrated in Zebra Technologies Corporation's booth number 125 at the National Retail Federation's 90th Annual Convention & Expo (Jacob Javits Convention Center, New York), Jan. 15-16.
