Logica and FunMail Announce Animated Messaging Alliance

FunMail Technologies to be Integrated Into Logica's m-Powered Servers

Logica and FunMail Inc. announced today a new relationship that will bring animated messaging products to market for WAP, SMS and future rich media messaging platforms. Under the new co-operative agreement, FunMail's unique animated messaging technologies will be combined with Logica's world-leading messaging products and services.

"Leveraging FunMail's exciting visual technologies within Logica's already acknowledged world class messaging suite will further enhance products that can provide significant revenue stream opportunities for operators," said Norman Frankel, global mobile commerce director at Logica.

"Logica is a world-class leader in the telecommunications industry," said FunMail CEO Adam Lavine. "Indeed, half the world's SMS traffic is already carried over Logica technology."

"Their superb products, distribution and support capabilities and expertise in wireless communication technology makes them a perfect collaborator for FunMail and creates the major revenue application the industry has been waiting for," confirmed Lavine.

FunMail is the world's first wireless animated messaging technology. Using a combination of powerful rendering and natural language processing technologies, FunMail can convert any short message into a fun and relevant animation. FunMail previously announced successful testing over the NTT DoCoMo i-mode network in Japan.

The FunMail engine scales the animation for the destination device depending on the device's display and sound capabilities. FunMails can be sent phone-to-phone, or computer-to-phone. The FunMail media engine can render animation in a variety of formats, from black and white to rich color, supporting WAP, SMS and i-mode capable phones, as well as PDA and desktop platforms.

Logica and FunMail plan to integrate their technologies rapidly to bring a SMS and WAP based messaging system to market. Both organizations believe there is considerable pent-up market demand that operators are keen to tap.

"There are millions of WAP-enabled phones out there that already support animation," said Lavine. "Messaging is what people want --it's the no. 1 use of mobile devices. By combining FunMail's WAP rendering engine with Logica WAP and SMS messaging servers, we will be creating a killer application for WAP."

"Logica believes its products, services and technologies will be significantly enhanced through the inclusion of FunMail's animation solutions," said Norman Frankel of Logica. "It should open up a world of opportunities for network operators and content providers alike --clearly something that the European market has long be waiting for."
