Providian Introduces Wireless Account Service

New Service Enables Customers to Access Their Credit Card Account Anywhere, Anytime

Providian Financial (NYSE:PVN) has launched wireless account access service, providing a convenient, secure way for customers to access their accounts in real-time.

Providian's wireless service will be compatible with Internet-enabled wireless devices, such as mobile phones and Palm handhelds, providing on-the-go freedom for account management. Customers who carry the Company's Aria Visa card will be the first to have access to the wireless service as part of a pilot program.

"We are very excited to be among the first to give consumers the freedom to securely access and manage their credit card account anywhere, anytime," said Jim Rowe, president of global e-commerce for Providian. "Offering wireless account management supports Providian's commitment to leveraging emerging technologies for a more convenient customer experience. Like the online bill payment capability we recently launched, this new service is yet another product enhancement that offers added value for Providian's cardholders."

Providian engaged Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH), a provider of wireless and mobile data products, to develop the wireless capability using its AirLoom(TM) service in partnership with AlterEgo Networks. The launch allows customers to access their account information from their Internet-enabled wireless devices. Providian anticipates developing additional wireless services and features in the future. Over time, the goal is to enable wireless customers to check account balances, track transactions, pay their bills and perform other account management functions using their wireless devices.
