Wavecom and Handspring Partner to Develop Next-Generation Wireless Handheld Solutions

Companies to Focus on WISMO(TM) GSM wireless technology

Wavecom S.A. (NASDAQ:WVCM; Nouveau Marche: WAVECOM), a leading developer of digital wireless standard modules (WISMO(TM)), today announced a strategic relationship with Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAND), a leading provider of handheld computers.

The companies intend to explore the development of future wireless data products and modules for the U.S., Europe and other global GSM markets. "The integration of wireless voice and data communications is one of the driving factors in the development of handheld computing today," stated Donna Dubinsky, CEO of Handspring Inc. "We believe Wavecom's technology and expertise can enhance Handspring's capabilities in this direction."

WISMO, which stands for Wireless Standard Module, is a compact, fully integrated device containing all of the software, hardware and other technology needed to implement a wireless telecommunications standard. WISMO modules are available in PCS1900 versions for the North American market as well as 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and dual-band versions for GSM applications elsewhere. GPRS functions provide a variety of high-speed data and multimedia communications options to enable such applications as wireless Internet.
