BitFlash Mobility Suite to Drive Mobile Internet Adoption: Software Platform First to Deliver Functional Rich Graphics to Mobile Devices

BitFlash(TM) today announced the release of its software platform, the BitFlash Mobility Suite.

The platform is the first to deliver rich graphics and user interface with zooming, panning and layering control capabilities to Internet-ready mobile devices. The platform is being launched at CTIA Global Wireless 2001 in Las Vegas this week.

"The need to provide graphics to mobile workforces has never been greater," said Antoine Paquin, BitFlash CEO. "Approximately two-thirds of current Internet access is through desktop devices; by 2003 access requests from wireless devices will outnumber wired. The initially text-based Internet exploded with the introduction of graphics in the mid 90s. The introduction of device independent, rich graphical content to mobile devices will propel adoption rates."

Unlike offerings with limited functionality and bitmap-based graphical content, BitFlash provides vector-based graphical content and user interface for optimal fidelity regardless of the device's operating system, processing capability or screen type. The company currently targets wireless and content application providers, and has had great traction from the financial and location based services industries. Sample applications include viewing real-time charts and graphs for stock quotes, and geographical and weather maps on handheld devices.

The BitFlash Mobility Suite has three components: BitFlash Server, BitFlash Visual Interface System (VIS), and the BitFlash Server Software Development Kit (SDK). Platform features include the delivery of high fidelity rich graphical content, device independence, bandwidth efficient delivery, and publish once, render everywhere assurance.

The BitFlash Server allows content creators to provide platform-independent graphics with content-specific user interfaces to wireless and handheld devices. With content-targeted graphical user interfaces (GUI), the server delivers graphs and charts with zooming, panning and a drilldown GUI, well suited for displaying financial data and enhancing location based services applications. It operates as a component Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) of leading application servers, including bea(TM) WebLogic(R).

The BitFlash VIS for mobile clients displays rich graphical content on devices ranging from PDAs to Smartphones. VIS allows users to continue interaction with rich (zoomable, pannable) graphics, even after disconnecting from the network. VIS also includes tools for developers to graphically enhance their own mobility applications for small devices.

The BitFlash Server SDK gives developers and content providers the tools to deliver non-mainstream content to a wide variety of mobile devices. Coupled with the BitFlash Server, the SDK allows information providers can move beyond the limited graphics capabilities currently available with the variety of mobile operating systems.

"The industry does not have to wait for 3G to experience 3G-quality content," said Frederic Charpentier, CTO BitFlash. "Combining BitFlash technology with today's mobile infrastructure will allow service providers to see an immediate return on investment."
