Boston.com Debuts on Mobile Phones Today With AT&T Digital PocketNet Service

Wireless Customers now have access to Boston's latest News and Arts and Entertainment Information Quickly and Easily

Boston.com, one of the country's most visited regional portals, announced today that it has launched its mobile phone content offering built on Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). AT&T Wireless is the first national carrier to feature the wireless Boston.com site on its AT&T Digital PocketNet(R) service. Additionally, local news and information from Boston.com is now available from any Web-enabled phone in the world by keying in wap.boston.com.

AT&T Digital PocketNet customers can access daily news, sports and business headlines and full-length articles from The Boston Globe on their wireless phones directly from the wireless Web menu. Restaurant reviews, searchable by both location and cuisine, and even a game of "hangman" are also available through the Boston.com wireless site.

"Boston.com has always strived to provide its audience with the most innovative tools available, and this is just another example," said Lisa M. DeSisto, vice president and general manager of Boston.com. "We're excited that our users can now take Boston.com with them on the go."

Andy Willett, vice president, business development for AT&T Wireless, said: "AT&T Wireless is pleased to have Boston.com and The Boston Globe as a local news and information provider. Boston.com is an integral part of our strategy to personalize the wireless Internet by providing local news and information most relevant to our subscribers' lives."

Boston.com is also available on other handheld devices, including Palm Pilots and Handspring Visors through Vindigo and AvantGo. Vindigo allows users to access restaurant and nightlife locations, including reviews from The Boston Globe, while AvantGo allows users to download news, arts and business information directly to a handheld computer. The launch of Boston.com's WAP product is the latest step in New York Times Digital's wireless strategy, as it continues to expand its international, national and local content offerings for multi-platform wireless delivery. In September, New York Times Digital introduced NYT Mobile, its WAP offering of news and information from NYTimes.com. In addition, local arts, entertainment and dining information from newyorktoday.com is also available through Vindigo and AvantGo.
