Ciao.com Goes Wireless With Covigo Providing Advice to Shoppers On the Move

Ciao.com Ready for mCommerce Across Europe in Just a Few Days

Covigo, Inc., a software company that helps enterprises adapt to the changing wireless world, today announced that Ciao.com, the world's largest consumer opinion site, has chosen Covigo to wirelessly enable its applications. Ciao.com can now provide thousands of `Comments and Opinions' about consumer products for shoppers on the move throughout Europe. Covigo was able to develop Ciao.com's mCommerce services, using the Covigo Platform(TM), in a matter of days and fully deployed it in a matter of weeks.

Using the Covigo Platform(TM) 2.5, customers can access and add information to Ciao.com's database of more than two million consumer opinions ranging from motorbikes to baby products. The Covigo platform allows Ciao.com to deploy identical information in different languages to any Internet-enabled mobile phone, PDA, or other wireless device. Covigo's ability to handle different languages without the need to build separate wireless applications for each language from scratch was key to Ciao.com when it decided to expand its service to mobile users.

"Covigo's wireless platform enabled us to build the structure of our wireless application and then simply drop a language layer over the top of it to produce localised language variants. This saved us a lot of time and money, as well as making it easier for us to deploy without having to set up different wireless sites for each major European country that we operate in," said Peter Vinnemeier, Ciao.com's vice president and chief technical officer. "We can now offer opinions to consumers right at the point of purchase and in their local language which significantly enhances the value of our service to our customers," added Vinnemeier.

"The Covigo Platform gives multi-national organisations a huge time-to-market advantage. The process of capturing enterprise and user requirements is made easy which means that our customers can quickly begin deploying wireless applications. Through this wireless initiative, Covigo is helping Ciao.com to provide enhanced customer service and realise competitive advantage," said Ken Morton, general manager, EMEA, Covigo.

The Covigo Platform offers complete lifecycle management of mobile applications in a robust, high performance and scalable environment, from design and deployment to monitoring and management of the application. Once a mobile application has been built and tested in the Covigo Studio(TM), it can be automatically deployed on the Covigo Engine(TM). With Covigo Insight, business managers have access to reporting and analysis tools that help them understand end-user behaviour and preferences. Using the data analysis collected by Covigo Insight, enterprises can optimise the application by enhancing and re-deploying it in a quick and cost-effective manner.

Covigo's network and device agnostic platform works with all types of wireless networks including GSM and CDMA, tailoring its output to the differing display capabilities of mobile phones, PDAs and other wireless devices. It will work seamlessly with the coming wave of 3G networks when they are rolled out over the next few years.
