Ericsson introduces CDMA Internet Services Platform to enable mass- market Mobile Internet

Ericsson's Internet Services Platform is a new tool for helping CDMA operators and service providers deploy Mobile Internet applications rapidly, efficiently and cost-effectively.

For operators, the Ericsson Internet Services Platform scalable, open architecture allows easy integration of third-party applications, reducing service management costs and bringing applications to market sooner. The network's open standard interfaces simplify application design for developers by allowing them to focus on functionality rather than proprietary interfaces. For the consumer, access to the Mobile Internet will become less complicated, and it will be easier to move among applications.

"Ericsson's Internet Services Platform is much more than an application platform; it is a key component for an operator's future success in the booming mobile Internet market," said Åke Persson, president of Ericsson CDMA Systems. "It provides operators with a powerful tool to bring a wide variety of Mobile Internet services to market easily and cost- effectively, differentiating themselves from the competition."

The CDMA market has proven its appetite for Mobile Internet services with a 30 percent penetration rate of all CDMA subscribers in the world today using mobile Internet. With the personalization afforded for both end-user services and billing, the Ericsson Internet Services Platform will introduce the operator and the consumer to a new level of flexibility, making the mobile Internet even more attractive then it is today.

The Ericsson Internet Services Platform can be deployed in cdmaOne networks with the assurance of a smooth transition to third-generation cdma2000 networks. The IP-based design enables seamless delivery of many services and applications, regardless of the access method, the underlying technology or the end user device. The result is a simpler process of launching and using mobile Internet applications. Complementing its product portfolio, Ericsson also has mobile Internet resource centers in all CDMA markets to assist operators locally with specific services, testing, integration and other deployment needs.

"Ericsson is uniquely positioned to offer operators CDMA network elements together with the Internet Services Platform, applications, enablers, handsets, and integration services," continued Persson. "We enable operators to deliver the Mobile Internet today and smoothly and cost-effectively respond to increased market demand."
