Ericsson shows complete, ready-to-deliver WCDMA system at CeBIT 2001

At CeBIT 2001 in Hannover, Germany, Ericsson is showing a complete WCDMA system with ready-to-deliver, commercially available 3GPP compatible products. The line up again confirms Ericsson's market leadership in 3G and its preeminent role as the driver of mobile Internet development.

Ericsson has the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of products and services for fast roll out of 3G networks. WCDMA equipment is already being delivered by Ericsson to several countries in the EU and to Japan.

In the system at CeBIT from the Radio Access Network are the RBS 3202 high capacity Radio Base Station; the RXI 820 Real Time Router for transmission aggregation; and the RNC 3810 Radio Network Controller with virtual radio network control functionality to support shared operations networks.

The core network includes the Mobile Switching Center (MSC); the Gateway GPRS Support Node/Serving GPRS Support Node (GGSN/SGSN); the Media Gateway (MGw); and Packet Backbone Network.

All these products are commercially launched and already being shipped to Ericsson 3G customers.

"Ericsson has always been a leader in the development and deployment of the newest communications technologies, and I am very pleased to show this fully working and commercially available WCDMA solution at CeBIT," says Mats Dahlin, head of mobile systems at Ericsson.

Ericsson is also demonstrating its network planning, operation and management tool, TRAM-RANOS, based on a dedicated interface between the network design tools and the operation & maintenance system. The TRAM- RANOS tool enables fast network planning and operational optimization of a WCDMA network and minimizes the risk of human error in these important activities.
