FedEx Expands Wireless Services for Customers Through Agreement with w-Technologies

w-Technologies' Mobilero(TM) Connects FedEx Customers To Critical Shipping Information Through More Than 50 Types of Hand-held Devices

w-Technologies, Inc., a global provider of wireless application products and mobile business solutions, today announced an agreement with FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) that enables the shipping giant's customers to wirelessly track FedEx Express, FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery shipments; determine the status of a shipment; and e-mail tracking results to multiple addresses.

Customers can also find the nearest FedEx location by zip code or address, obtain information about latest-drop-off times, and receive directions to nearby locations from more than 50 types of wireless handheld devices including Web-enabled phones, two-way pagers, and PDAs.

The new wireless offering from FedEx, which the company launched today nationwide, was designed, built and released using w-Technologies' Mobilero. A proven wireless application development platform that already powers the mobile business of more than 15 corporations globally, Mobilero supports communications, content delivery and transactions across more than 250 complementary and competing wireless devices, networks and service providers.

"FedEx has always provided its customers with the most convenient and efficient means of access to critical information, and we're happy to play such a major role in helping them continue that practice," said Michael Hale, vice president of enterprise solutions at w-Technologies, Inc. "This project exemplifies w-Technologies' goal to build the most advanced wireless solutions for any type of company in as short a period as possible, using one of the most proven and sophisticated wireless development platforms on the market -Mobilero."

In a separate announcement today, FedEx outlined its overall wireless strategy, which it is expanding in response to growing demand for on-the-go services.

"FedEx long ago realized that information about a package is as important to our customers and our employees as the package itself," said Mike Glenn, executive vice president, market development and corporate communications at FedEx Corporation. "Since FedEx became the first to offer package-tracking information online, it has remained a global leader in putting information technology to work. We recognize an expanding mobile work force will drive the rapid growth of hand-held devices, and we will continue to offer leading-edge technology that helps customers and employees conveniently manage the movement of packages."

According to industry analysts, wireless consumer adoption is expected to grow dramatically over the next few years.

"The Yankee Group predicts that there will be 56.6 million wireless device users within the next four years," said Roberta Wiggins, director, wireless mobile communications at The Yankee Group. "These users will be demanding wireless applications that improve efficiencies, allow on-demand access to critical information and provide on-the-go convenience. Wireless products such as those offered by FedEx will be the catalyst that drive this wireless adoption."
