MOTIENT NAMED OFFICIAL WIRELESS EMAIL PROVIDER FOR LADIES PROFESSIONAL GOLF ASSOCIATION

eLink Wireless Email Service for 350 LPGA Members and Officials

Motient Corporation (NASDAQ: MTNT), a nationwide wireless data communications provider, announced its first national sports sponsorship that features the company providing its award-winning eLinkSM wireless email service to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). Motient's national marketing partnership includes the distribution of eLink service to 350 LPGA Tour professionals and members, LPGA tournament personnel, LPGA officials and staff. The two-year agreement was launched at a players’ meeting held prior to the LPGA’s first event of 2001, YourLife® Vitamins LPGA Classic at the Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida, January 12-14.

"The LPGA is thrilled to welcome Motient as the newest member of the LPGA corporate marketing family," said Ty M. Votaw, commissioner of the LPGA. "The eLink service is a unique form of technology and is perfect for the active person, which represents not only our fans, but also our members. Motient’s eLink service is a powerful tool for staying in touch, and I think this will be a wonderful partnership for us both."

Motient’s eLink email service provides complete wireless access to virtually any POP or IMAP email account and allows Internet browsing. The eLink service is offered on Research In Motion (RIM) Wireless HandheldTM devices that include the functionality of a PDA, including Personal Information Management tools such as calendar, address book and task list. The eLink service operates on the Motient network, the nation’s first and largest wireless data network that touches more than 220 million people and features the industry’s most pervasive on-street and in-building coverage.

"The LPGA is an organization that is an ideal group of users for our eLink service – active and on-the-go, true mobile professionals with a need to stay in touch," said Donald L. Campbell, director of corporate communications for Motient. "Whether on Tour, at home or traveling the country, players, staff and LPGA officials can stay connected via wireless email to friends, family, fans, even agents. This sponsorship creates national recognition for our eLink brand using the LPGA’s marketing clout."

The LPGA is a non-profit organization that has been in existence for over 50 years, making it the longest-running and oldest professional women’s sports association. This year, the LPGA Tour travels to more than 30 different cities throughout the United States, and the association boasts a membership in excess of 1,500. The LPGA includes the LPGA Tour, the preeminent women’s golf tour, and the Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Division, the industry leader in teaching teachers to teach.
