PacketVideo and T-Mobil to Conduct Mobile Multimedia Trials Over GPRS Network

PacketVideo Corporation, the recognized leader in wireless multimedia, and T-Mobil, a leading provider of mobile telecommunications services in Germany, today announced that they are conducting trials of PacketVideo's end-to-end wireless multimedia technology over T-Mobil's advanced General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network.

The GPRS trials will be used by T-Mobil engineers to test PacketVideo's interoperability with T-Mobil's server infrastructure and with the handsets and personal digital assistants (PDA's) included in the trial.

The higher data transmission rates of GPRS offer mobile users enhanced mobile multimedia access with multimedia capabilities, such as live cams and short form video entertainment and applications such as movie finder, which enables consumers to watch film clips, read reviews of a film and even book a movie ticket, all in one easy-to-use application.

"This multimedia trial is an important step towards our goal of providing customers with user-friendly applications that provide the best in mobile data services, including mobile entertainment and information," said Horst Rauch, director of UMTS Services Platform for T-Mobil. "We selected to trial with PacketVideo because their technology provides an end-to-end system for wireless multimedia that combines industry leading MPEG-4 open standards compliant technology with the experience of conducting many mobile multimedia consumer trials around the world."

The trial is based on PVPlatform 2.0, an end-to-end system that enables wireless operators, device manufacturers, and content providers to deliver wireless multimedia. Each of its three dynamic components, PVAuthor(TM), PVServer(TM) and PVPlayer(TM), will be integrated in the lab with T-Mobil's GPRS infrastructure.

"PacketVideo is pleased to take part in this trial with one of the largest and most advanced mobile operators in the world to demonstrate how PacketVideo's technology interoperates with GPRS infrastructure," said Jim Cook, general manager of PacketVideo Europe.
