Red-M and AvantGo Collaborate to Extend the Reach of Content and Applications From Bluetooth Networks

Red-M(TM), a pioneering developer of Bluetooth(TM) networking solutions and subsidiary of Madge Networks N.V. (NASDAQ NM: MADGF), has teamed up with AvantGo, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO), a leading provider of mobile infrastructure software and services, to enable mobile access to information and content and applications provided over Bluetooth networks.

Bluetooth provides a powerful mechanism for the distribution of content to handheld devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and information appliances. By attaching to a Bluetooth network, these devices can have an always-on connection ensuring the content and information is always up-to-date. By combining Red-M's award-winning Bluetooth networking technology with AvantGo's M-Business solutions', access to content and applications can be extended beyond the Bluetooth network allowing users to view and interact with information while on the move. When re-entering a Red-M Bluetooth network, changes and updates can be automatically re-synchronized.

This combination of technology is a powerful enabler for third generation mobile applications where users move between multiple Bluetooth networks. For example, a traveller can synchronize a copy of an airline duty free shopping catalogue through AvantGo on their PDA while in a Red-M Bluetooth enabled lounge. During the flight, they could view the interactive catalogue and make purchases using the AvantGo software. At the destination airport, their selections would be automatically downloaded across the Red-M Bluetooth network and the transaction completed. The duty free items could then be available for the traveller on their return journey through the airport.

David Rice, Managing Director, AvantGo Mobile Internet comments, "Our software already provides customers with interactive and personalized Internet content and web-based applications via mobile devices from over 1000 public content sources and channels. Corporate customers can also benefit by using the same technology on their own corporate networks and Extranets. Teaming up with Red-M will allow us to extend our capability even further to offer customers the advantages of Bluetooth technology. We are delighted to be working with Red-M because the company is acknowledged as a leading developer of pioneering Bluetooth products."

Simon Gawne, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, adds, "AvantGo is a pioneer in the delivery of wireless solutions and synchronization software. This alliance will enable us to offer users increased mobility and flexibility. We believe that the advanced capabilities of Bluetooth will provide direct benefits to the business, consumer and a number of vertical markets, with a particularly compelling application for any industries needing to provide timely and accurate information for their mobile customers."
