Samsung Telecommunications America and Sprint PCS Announce Agreement to Bring Compact, Full-Color PDA Phone to Market

Wireless industry leaders, Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) and Sprint PCS (NYSE:PCS) today announced the companies' intentions to bring to market the technology to converge a wireless handset with the Palm-OS(R) in a compact, full-color-screen device. The SPH-I300, a wireless PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) phone, which will operate on the Sprint PCS network, has been developed in conjunction with Palm and is wholly compatible with all Palm-OS(R) based applications. The SPH-I300 is evidence of Samsung and Sprint PCS' commitment to providing consumers and businesses with innovative technology and cutting-edge features in both their wireless devices and services. The phone is expected to be available and operating via the Sprint PCS network around late summer, 2001.

This relationship allows the companies to capitalize on the growing demand for solutions that integrate wireless and computing capabilities as well as tailored applications from Sprint PCS' network. Samsung and Sprint PCS are leading the development of next-generation handheld devices and services by focusing on bringing new functionality and simplicity to consumers and businesses alike.

"Samsung's relationship with Sprint PCS allows us to fulfill consumers' expectations for products that combine multipurpose features and optimize service applications," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Samsung's wireless terminals division. "By leveraging our collective resources and expertise in the wireless manufacturing and service provider industries, we will be able to bring these types of integrated products to consumers quickly and cost effectively."

"Many of us today don't know where our professional lives end and our personal lives begin and it's important that we choose products and services from companies like Sprint PCS and Samsung that can increase both our professional and personal productivity," said John Garcia, senior vice president of sales and distribution for Sprint PCS. "Sprint PCS and Samsung understand the growing demand for our customers to stay connected to the people and information they need, when they need it and delivering a device like the SPH-I300 clearly demonstrates this."
