WISP Announces the First Acceleration Technology for the Ricochet Wireless Network

WISP Incorporated has introduced a suite of acceleration technologies that enhance connection speeds using CDPD and the Ricochet Network.

Ricochet, a proprietary network from Metricom Inc. -- a new network built from the ground up -- offers users wireless connection speeds ranging from 28.8 kbps to 128 kbps. Using either WISP Zephyr, the client-based compression program, or WISP Zadiel, the clientless acceleration software piece, a significant increase in data transmission rates is consistently achieved over the Ricochet Network.

Earlier this year, WISP's engineers tested Zephyr (client-server acceleration architecture) and Zadiel (clientless acceleration) on the Ricochet network. The results were clear. Using WISP acceleration technologies, users achieved an average performance gain of (2x), twice the 28.8 kbps standard Ricochet connection speeds.

WISP's patent pending acceleration technology uses intelligent compression algorithms with built-in image optimization functionality. This interface allows users to control the amount of image degradation they prefer. Changing the amount of image degradation may enhance the acceleration of data transmissions.

WISP Zephyr works with most Internet protocols, including HTTP, FTP, POP, SMTP, and Citrix. WISP Zadiel works with all handheld devices that are HTTP1.1 compliant (Compaq IPAQ, Casio Casiopia E Series, HP Jornada 540, etc.). In addition, both Zephyr and Zadiel work on all Windows' 9x based Operating systems.

WISP's focus is to enrich the wireless experience through compression of data and image optimization. WISP Inc. continues to embrace and improve acceleration for existing data technologies and networks such as Ricochet and CDPD. Similarly, with the prevalent industry migration to 2.5G and 3G technologies in the near future, WISP's acceleration technology will prove to be advantageous. With the success of Zephyr and Zadiel on both the CDPD and Ricochet networks, WISP has given the wireless market exactly what it needs, in the fast-paced communication age -- ever increasing speed.
