ACCESS AND I-DRIVE PARTNER FOR INTEGRATED CLIENT/SERVER SOLUTIONS FOR MOBILE DEVICES

Leading Embedded Browser Provider and Leading Storage Software Technology Provider Team Up to Offer Users More Functionality, Flexibility

April 17, 2001 ACCESS Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), the leading provider of embedded Internet software, and i-drive, the leading provider of enhanced storage software solutions, today announced a technology partnership to bring rich personal storage applications to mobile and non-PC devices worldwide. The combination of client and server technology and experience created by the partnership enables the two companies to jointly develop applications that extend the storage capabilities of mobile phones and non-PC devices.

ACCESS has commercially shipped its NetFront® and Compact NetFront® Internet browser on more than 24 million non-PC devices, including cellular handsets for i-mode, the most widely used mobile Internet service in the world.

“As mobile devices become more sophisticated, the need for data storage increases,” says Dr. Tomihisa Kamada, executive vice president and CTO of ACCESS. “By working with i-drive, we can offer remote access to documents, digital audio and image files from our popular browser.”

i-drive benefits from ACCESS’ embedded software experience, as well as from the relationships that ACCESS has developed with the world’s leading telecommunications service providers and device manufacturers.

“As the leading browser provider for NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service and a growing list of device manufacturers including NEC, Motorola, Ericsson and Sony, ACCESS is an incredibly valuable and exciting partner for i-drive,” said Tim Craycroft, i-drive’s CEO.

i-drive provides PC and mobile storage software solutions to Internet Service Providers and telecommunications carriers worldwide on the foundation of its Enhanced Storage Solution (ESS) line of products. i-drive’s ESS products enable individuals to store virtually any type file and access it remotely from any device without using up valuable storage space on the device itself. In addition, i-drive’s Enhanced Storage Platform (ESP) enables third-party developers to rapidly create and deploy new storage-centric network applications.
