Citrix and Sierra Wireless Join Forces to Provide Wireless Access to Server-Based Applications On Any Device

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS) and Sierra Wireless (Nasdaq:SWIR)(TSE:SW.) announced today they have established a strategic relationship to deliver business applications running on Citrix(R) MetaFrame (TM) servers over wireless networks to users on virtually any client device.

Citrix MetaFrame software supports the Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 300, 400 and 510 wireless network cards and will support future Sierra Wireless AirCard products, offering users of wireless devices the benefit of secure, high-performance access to full-function server-based applications over wide-area networks.

Key terms of the agreement include product compatibility testing and joint marketing and sales initiatives, beginning with Citrix representation in the Sierra Wireless booth at PC Expo in June. Citrix has joined the Sierra Wireless WirelessReady (TM) Alliance (WRA) and Sierra Wireless has become a Premier-level member of the Citrix Business Alliance (TM) (CBA).

"With the growing adoption of mobile communication devices, businesses are asking for access to applications along with Internet connectivity and tools to optimize worker productivity," said David Jones, senior vice president of corporate development for Citrix. "Through its wireless modem technology and partnerships with leading wireless carriers in North America, Sierra Wireless is helping Citrix ensure that customers can connect with the business applications they need from a wide range of devices and network types using their current IT infrastructure."

Sierra Wireless has developed products for existing and emerging wireless data networks in North America that support Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Ricochet wireless networks. All Sierra Wireless products are designed for performance and reliability, offering complete wireless solutions for businesses and consumers.

"Citrix is leading the effort to provide secure, efficient application access from wireless devices," said Andrew Harries, senior vice president, corporate development for Sierra Wireless. "Citrix technology, which enables applications to execute 100 percent on the server, uses minimal bandwidth, making it highly efficient over wireless WANs. By working with Sierra Wireless and other members of the WirelessReady Alliance, Citrix can extend server-based application access into the wireless space and provide even greater device and network flexibility to enterprise customers."

Citrix application serving technology extends the reach of Windows(R) and UNIX(R) based applications to wireless devices, offering organizations a cost-effective, flexible method for making full-function business solutions available to mobile users. Citrix ICA Clients are provided for leading wireless operating systems, including the Symbian Platform and the Microsoft Windows CE and Pocket PC platforms, enabling applications running on Citrix servers to be accessed by users on a wide array of handheld devices. Citrix technology is a key enabler of successful application delivery in the wireless space through its ability to provide a full- featured, rich application experience over a low-bandwidth wireless connection.
