Comverse Provides Sichuan MCC With Advanced Wireless Messaging Solution

Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, today announced it has signed an agreement with Sichuan Mobile Communications Corporation (Sichuan MCC) to provide an advanced wireless messaging solution supporting short message service, (SMS), voicemail, and unified messaging.

A centerpiece of Comverse's solution is its Intelligent Short Message Service Center (ISMSC). Providing Sichuan MCC with the ability to deliver text-based value-added services to subscribers in major cities throughout Sichuan, the wireless operator can now offer voicemail notification, SMS, stock quotes, weather reports and news updates. Comverse's ISMSC is a high-performance short message service center that provides scalable capacity and open connectivity to the web and SMS-based applications. It provides full IP connectivity, GPRS support and is well prepared for the migration to 3G.

In addition to providing the wireless platform, Comverse will also provide Sichuan MCC with unified messaging. The unified messaging service enables subscribers to access their voice, fax, and email messages from a single mailbox. Comverse's unified messaging solution is based on a standards-based open IP-architecture and works with all major email servers.

With 2.7 million subscribers in the province of Sichuan, Sichuan MCC is one of the largest provincial mobile operators in China with over 1.9 million subscribers. Sichuan MCC is a subsidiary of the China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), one of the largest mobile operators in the world.

"We are pleased to be working with Comverse to deliver wireless messaging solutions including voicemail, SMS and unified messaging," said Li Hua, General Manager, Sichuan MCC. "With Comverse's leadership we are in a good position to provide value-added services to our subscribers and remain at the forefront of the telecommunications industry. Short message services, especially stock quote updates, are very popular in Sichuan," added Li Hua.
