Descartes Expands Wireless Communications Capabilities Across Global Logistics Services Network

New MobileLINK Wireless Applications Enhance Mobile Workforce Capabilities

The Descartes Systems Group Inc., (Nasdaq:DSGX), (TSE:DSG), a leading provider of collaborative logistics management technology, announced today MobileLINK Freight and MobileLINK Visibility, two new additions to the Descartes suite of MobileLINK wireless applications. MobileLINK wireless applications extend the Descartes Global Logistics Services Network to the mobile workforce, enabling efficient data collection at the source and real-time information access and communication via wireless devices.

MobileLINK Freight enhances real-time communication and information exchange between dispatchers and drivers for more efficient pick-up and delivery operations. MobileLINK Freight captures real-time status updates from drivers throughout the delivery day and displays pick-up and delivery schedules that are always up-to-date. Driver and dispatcher can communicate using free-form or canned messages. It also supports signature capture and scanning capabilities for real-time proof-of-delivery and more detailed and accurate shipment tracking. MobileLINK Freight uses the Palm OS and PocketPC operating system and runs on advanced data collection devices such as the Symbol 1700 and 2700 class of devices.

MobileLINK Visibility extends supply chain visibility to the mobile workforce, giving field personnel the ability to access real-time information about the status of orders, shipments and inventory. Real-time supply chain knowledge helps mobile workers rapidly and accurately respond to customer inquiries, and enables them to proactively take action if events are deviating from plan so that the end customer commitment can still be satisfied. MobileLINK Visibility runs on the RIM 857 Wireless Handheld(TM) and RIM 957 Wireless Handheld(TM) palm-sized devices.

"Especially in today's economic environment, any investment in technology must prove a return-on-investment. Wireless field service applications, the leading wireless data service, continue to see increased adoption as they both improve efficiency and productivity as well as increase the usefulness of central systems by extending new capabilities to frontline staff," said Phillip Redman, Research Director, Gartner Mobile and Wireless Networks.

"Descartes' MobileLINK wireless applications suite puts the power of real-time information into the hands of the mobile workforce," said Michael Jakab, Vice President of Transportation Optimization Systems at Descartes. "Mobile field workers, sales representatives, drivers and other delivery workers can provide status updates in real time and from the source, improving customer service and supply chain reaction time. These same workers can also gain access to real-time information on activities elsewhere in the supply chain, such as viewing the status of an inbound critical part. It is only with real-time information that companies can most effectively manage their supply chains and offer the superior service that customers are demanding."

The MobileLINK wireless applications suite is part of Descartes' complete Dynamic Carrier Execution solutions set, providing optimized routing, scheduling, pick-up and delivery in the last mile of the order-to-cash cycle.
