MobileIM Introduces Universal Instant Messaging for Handheld Mobile Devices

Instant Messaging Now Available On Any Text-Messaging Capable Device Such as Cell Phones, PDAs, and Pagers Regardless of the Wireless Platform

MobileIM, Inc. (www.mobileim.com) a developer of leading-edge mobile communication technology announced today that it has completed development of its mobile instant messaging technology platform.

Using the new MobileIM solution, service providers, enterprises, and individuals can now utilize the power of instant messaging systems for communications, content delivery, and m-commerce transactions. Besides its proprietary instant messaging client, the MobileIM solution connects all major instant messaging applications (i.e., AOL's Instant Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, and MSN Messenger) with any text-messaging capable device such as cell phones, PDAs, alphanumeric and Blackberry pagers. This robust and powerful technology will become the foundation for future mobile commerce (m-commerce) innovations that will soon be available through MobileIM's m-commerce portal located at www.mcommerce.com. According to OVUM Research, m-commerce transactions will exceed $200 billion by 2005.

"Today's announcement is the first example of a company enabling the more than 200 million existing PC-based instant messaging users to transcend the technology barriers that previously existed and communicate via their wireless devices regardless of the messaging protocol," said Eric D. Johnson, co-founder and CEO of MobileIM. "The unveiling of this new technology changes the landscape of mobile instant messaging industry since we can now seamlessly integrate mobile devices with major instant messaging platforms as well as position ourselves as the leading m-commerce transaction engine for wireless carriers and content providers."

The Mobile Instant Messaging Dilemma

At the heart of MobileIM's solution is proprietary, patent-pending technology that bridges communications barriers between disparate instant messaging systems and wireless carrier's data networks. Until now, universal instant messaging was not available to subscribers of different networks, which represented a significant impediment to the growth of instant messaging among mobile wireless device users. "MobileIM has been working for many months to engineer a new technology platform that is powerful, flexible and scalable and that would solve the issue of messaging between communications networks regardless of the type of messaging protocol the carrier is using," said Jason Grovert, CTO and co-founder of MobileIM. "The beauty of the MobileIM system is that there is no need for users to purchase additional gadgets, equipment, infrastructure or hardware because we leverage existing text-messaging capabilities of mobile devices and their network's existing messaging infrastructure which saves our users time and money. There is no need to wait for the third generation networks to arrive to create m-commerce applications by utilizing our technology today."

MobileIM's Solution

In development since late 1999, MobileIM's mobile instant messaging technology platform has three core elements that enable seamless messaging to and from users with any text-messaging capable device. MobileIM acts as a "clearinghouse" for the instant messages coming in and out of different systems and devices. This allows mobile instant messages to originate from any source and be delivered to any text messaging capable device. The three core elements are:

-- MobileIM Message Manager(TM) -- This technology allows the

routing and conversion of messages among disparate instant messaging software and carrier protocols. All incoming and outgoing instant messages will be routed through MobileIM's scalable messaging infrastructure.

-- MobileIM Presence Manager(TM) -- This element manages the presence of a user and ultimately their device (i.e., it shows if the user is "online", "offline", "away", "in a call", etc.). As networks evolve, this element will manage all location information gathered about the wireless device as well.

-- MobileIM Preference Portal(TM) -- The portal, which is located at www.mobileim.com provides information about our technology platform as well as an interface for mobile instant messaging to MobileIM users. Right now, users can sign up for their own MobileIM account and start receiving and replying to mobile instant messages from their friends, family and co-workers.

There are three MobileIM products available right now:

-- IM Service Provider -- By integrating MobileIM's technology into their solution, wireless carriers and content providers will now have the power to deliver messages and process responses to and from their customers. MobileIM will allow subscribers to receive valuable, time-sensitive content on demand such as news, stock prices, weather, sports, alerts, m-commerce transactions, etc. MobileIM will soon showcase solutions integrated with their technology at their m-commerce portal located at www.mcommerce.com.

-- IM Enterprise -- Allows employees to communicate with one another using their text-messaging capable wireless devices or their computers when they're away (and in) the office.

-- IM Individual -- Individuals can sign up for a MobileIM account and enable friends, family and co-workers to send messages to their cell phone, pager, PDA, RIM, or any text-messaging capable device. MobileIM messages can be sent from PC to PC, PC to mobile device, and mobile device to mobile device between MobileIM users.

Future Direction

MobileIM's technology platform has limitless direction on how and where it can be implemented. It can also be extended to any protocol so that as networks and protocols evolve, existing MobileIM solutions will have an easier migration path to support new technologies. MobileIM will continue to develop products based on their technology platform addressing needs of specific markets. In the near future, MobileIM's infrastructure will be used as a platform to offer other applications and content to mobile users. Investors
