Neurosurgeons Prescribe Red-M Bluetooth Network as Mobile Cure for Doctors

Red-M Partners With m-creations to Increase Doctors' Mobility in Hospitals

Red-M(TM), a leading supplier of advanced Bluetooth(TM) network product solutions, has completed another Bluetooth network installation, at the University Hospital (Universitaetsklinik) in Mainz, Germany. The network is located in the department of neurosurgery and allows doctors to enter important patient information, via the Bluetooth network, into the hospital's patient information database from a handheld Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).

Red-M's award-winning 3000AS access server and 1000AP access points are at the core of the Bluetooth network. The installation offers significant benefits to hospital staff, enabling flexibility and mobility around the hospital. For example, in order to satisfy stringent German regulations, all doctors have to record diagnoses and surgical procedures of each patient according to international classification codes, stored in the hospital's database (a SAP R/3 system). The system allows the hospital to balance its accounts against a patient's health insurance policy. Until the introduction of the Red-M Bluetooth network, doctors had to manually look up and write down these codes, which would later be entered into the system. Over Bluetooth, this information and other updates can be received and displayed on doctors' PDA's.

"We took the decision to install Red-M's Bluetooth network technology and m-creations' powerful mobile medical software because the ability to constantly synchronize data wirelessly to our staff's PDA's is very compelling. Both the software from m-creations and Red-M's Bluetooth networking infrastructure were the ideal solution for a hospital environment. Both are fully functional and are suitable to be used around sensitive medical equipment," commented Prof. Axel Perneczky, head of the neurosurgery department of the hospital.

The German hospital is one of the first organizations world-wide to benefit from installing a Bluetooth network. The application has been developed by the German based Red-M partner m-creations. "We are pleased to be a partner with Red-M for this first wireless implementation of our PDA software. We consider Bluetooth to be the ideal standard for this kind of application, and are convinced that further hospitals will greatly benefit from managing patients' records over Bluetooth technology", said Frank Pacholak, executive director at m-creations.

"The ability for doctors to have access to the most recent patient information on a PDA over Bluetooth is very powerful. Due to the mobile nature of hospital staff within the expanse of a hospital department, a Bluetooth network makes perfect sense, enabling information to be always updated throughout a working day to a doctor's mobile device. We are very pleased to be working with m-creations on this exciting Bluetooth installation," comments Simon Gawne, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Red-M.
