Livelink
Wireless To Deliver Real-time Dynamic Access to US Navy
Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSE: OTC), a
worldwide leader in collaborative commerce software for e-business, today
announced the availability of Livelink Wireless™, the industry’s first
wireless technology for collaborative commerce applications. This new product
offering is a significant step toward extending
corporate initiatives into the mobile environment.
Livelink Wireless will
be demonstrated at the AIIM 2001 Conference and Exposition located at the Jacob
Javits Center in New York City, next week between May 1st and 3rd,
where Open Text is presenting a Conference Keynote and exhibiting at Booth
#2737. For more information about Livelink Wireless, please visit www.opentext.com/wireless.
From
a single interface, Livelink Wireless provides access to the business critical
content and collaborative functionality of Livelink. Users have the ability to
browse and view documents, schedule meetings and appointments, assign project
tasks, send and receive email, and create discussions, all in real-time from a
variety of wireless devices.
“We
are planning to test Livelink Wireless as an extension of our existing Livelink
deployment,” said Patrick Connor, Senior Project Manager, United States Naval
Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). “With members of our organization distributed
across the country, having mobile access to critical information is a crucial
part of our daily business.”
Livelink
Wireless offers extensive personalization capabilities to reflect individual
needs and preferences. Users can customize their own wireless interface to
deliver one-click access to the information and functionality they need to get
the job done, including calendaring, email, contacts and Livelink directories.
According
to Jim Jacobs, Research Director with the Gartner Group, “The release of
Livelink Wireless is a logical next step for Open Text. As enterprises continue
to decentralize and mobilize their workforce, connectivity to growing corporate
knowledge suites will be increasingly critical. The standards and approaches
continue to evolve, but it is important to establish close ties to knowledge
frameworks by providing familiar user experiences and capabilities on a wide
variety of platforms.”
“Organizations
accumulate massive amounts of information within their collaborative solutions.
For mobile users, personalization is the key to locating the information they
need quickly and easily,” said Dylan Barrell, Director of Product Management,
Open Text.
Livelink
Wireless is device independent. It supports a variety of Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs) such as Palm, RIM, and Handspring, as well as handheld
computers, pagers and cellular telephones. Open Text’s commitment to
supporting industry standards like Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and
Wireless Markup Language (WML) ensures that future devices and systems will be
able to interoperate, protecting customers’ investments in wireless technology
and solutions.
“The move to wireless Internet-based technology is a
significant development for the future of collaborative commerce solutions,”
said Andrew Pery, Vice President of Global Marketing, Open Text. “By providing
true anytime, anywhere access to dynamic corporate information, Livelink
Wireless users can save valuable time on business-critical initiatives,
translating into improved efficiency and greater productivity.”
Gartner
predicts that by the end of the year 2003, 8 million people in the United States
alone will own a Web-enabled PDA; and 107 million will own a Web-enabled
cellular phone. (Source: Millions Will Expect Wireless Offerings from Retailers,
