Socket's Digital Phone Card Selected by Nextel for Mobile Web Access Kit

Socket's CompactFlash Card and Cable Turns Nextel Mobile Phones Into Fast Wireless Modems for Windows-powered Pocket PCs

Socket Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:SCKT) (PSE:SOK) today announced that the company's market-leading Digital Phone Card will be re-sold by Nextel Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:NXTL). The card makes it easy to connect a Nextel Internet-ready phone to a Windows Powered Pocket PC, allowing people with these handheld computers to use Nextel's nationwide all-digital wireless network for wireless e-mail, web browsing, or remote networking. The Nextel-branded version of the Digital Phone Card will be part of a mobile connectivity kit that will be available from Nextel's web site or from other Nextel sales channels.

The Nextel-branded version of the Digital Phone Card can be combined with any Nextel "plus" series Internet-ready phone to support Nextel Online Dial-up Service, a circuit-switched wireless data offering. The card's CompactFlash form factor fits in the CompactFlash slot or, via a standard adapter, in the PC Card slot of a mobile computer. A cable connects the Nextel phone and the Digital Phone Card, converting the wireless handset into a standard modem which can connect to a host computer.

"We're thrilled that Nextel's family of mobile data solutions now includes our Digital Phone Card," said Peter Phillips, director of product marketing for Socket. "This is a great endorsement of our connectivity technology and will make it easier than ever for owners of Pocket PCs to access the Internet when they're on the road."

"The Digital Phone Card rounds out Nextel's portfolio of wireless data connectivity kits and provides our business customers with yet another means of connecting with the Internet or with corporate Intranets," said Greg Santoro, vice president for Internet and wireless services for Nextel. "We're happy to work with Socket to provide productivity-enhancing data solutions for our customers."
