Sprint Announces Wireless Web for Business Starter Kits That Give Companies a Simple, Affordable and Low-Risk Option to Trial Mobile Computing Solutions

Bundled Kits Include Wireless Knowledge Software to Access Corporate Data, Sprint PCS Phones, Wireless Web Modems, Service Plans and Customer Support for "One-stop" Mobile Computing Solutions

Sprint (NYSE: FON/PCS), which operates the nation's largest all-digital, all-PCS nationwide network, announced availability of Wireless Web for Business Starter Kits for Sprint PCS enterprise customers.

The innovative bundled kits include Sprint PCS Internet-ready Phones, service plans, corporate data access software, connectivity devices and customer support for 10 employees at a flat rate for a three-month period. The Starter Kits provide an affordable, low-risk opportunity for Sprint PCS enterprise customers to trial corporate email applications and wireless connectivity solutions on a limited scale. Geared towards improving productivity and wirelessly enabling existing corporate applications, the one-stop mobile solution also makes it simple and easy for customers to implement and manage.

Easy Access to Corporate E-mail on Your Sprint PCS Phone

Sprint PCS has leveraged its Wireless Web for Business relationship with Wireless Knowledge to offer the Application Starter Kit, a complete mobility package including all the necessary components for mobile access to corporate email, calendar and contacts. Using Sprint PCS Phones, mobile employees can check corporate email even while they are out of the office, whether they are in a taxi, at the airport or between meetings. The bundled kits consists of 10 Sprint PCS Phones (choice of TP3000 or TP2200); 10 Total Digital Connection (TDC) rate plans for three months; and 10 seats of software applications for Wireless Knowledge's Workstyle for Microsoft Exchange. The total package is $3,200 for the Wireless Knowledge kit, an estimated 50 percent cost savings.

Simple Solution to Wirelessly Enable Your Laptop

Modem Starter Kits are available for enterprise customers interested in providing mobile employees with wireless connectivity via their laptops to access the Internet and their corporate networks. This convenient solution uses the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Modem, a PC card manufactured by Sierra Wireless that fits into a standard Type II slot on a laptop running Microsoft Windows. Equipped with its own wireless radio, the device enables users to stay connected without the need of a wall-jack. The Wireless Web Modem is ideal for mobile professionals in sales or field service roles that travel, or are otherwise out of the office frequently, but still need to be connected to their corporate applications and information. The Wireless Web Modem is capable of delivering the Enhanced Internet Connection, a standard Sprint PCS feature providing users with an Internet browsing experience comparable to a 56 kbps landline dial-up connection. Kits include 10 Wireless Web Modems and 10 Total Digital Connection (TDC) rate plans for three months at a flat rate of $2,500.

"Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business Starter Kits provide our enterprise customers with a simple, low-risk and cost-effective opportunity to utilize productivity-focused corporate applications and connectivity solutions," said Jay Highley, vice president, business marketing. "Sprint PCS continues to excel in the mobile computing space by bringing together the applications, the integrated devices, a nationwide all-digital network, and alliances with key industry leaders."

"Our continuing collaborations with Sprint PCS support Wireless Knowledge's commitment to help businesses keep mobile workers productive," said Dave Whalen, senior vice president of global sales and services, Wireless Knowledge. "This complementary promotion offers corporate customers everything they need to implement a mobile computing solution in a single, cost-effective bundle -- making it a simple, one-stop shopping experience for the enterprise."

"Sierra Wireless strives to deliver superior product performance, reliability and support," stated Mark McMillan, vice president marketing for Sierra Wireless. "Our collaboration with Sprint PCS provides mobile professionals a complete wireless solution, offering the simplicity and freedom to wirelessly connect to their corporate applications anywhere, anytime on their nationwide network."

Highley added: "With the help of our partners, Sprint PCS can provide a complete solution -- not just a piece of the puzzle -- to help companies increase productivity, enhance customer services and reduce costs. These flat-rate kits are the ideal solution for companies that want to get their feet wet and gather key learnings. Those companies that start using wireless data early on will have a powerful competitive advantage."

Analysts agree that companies can benefit by implementing the first stages of a wireless data strategy sooner rather than later. "Mobile technology is still evolving, consists of many components, and can be confusing to the uninitiated," said Phillip Redman, research director, Gartner Group. "Companies are looking for a complete solution that takes out the guesswork and lessens the impact of implementation and support."

At the end of the three-month period, customers are free to change or discontinue service. If customers wish to continue service, they will be put on Sprint PCS Total Digital Connections business rate plans at a monthly rate of their choice. The kits will be available until Sept. 1, 2001.
