Ultradata Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ULTRE) announced today the launch of its first products to feature driving directions provided by Rand McNally. The new handheld travel devices, TripLink(TM) and Pocket TripLink(TM), allow consumers to download from the Internet address-to-address, turn-by-turn driving directions and provide information about highways and points of interest.
The TripLink(TM) product, available in early June 2001, also contains information on more than 70,000 services along U.S. interstates such as gas, food, lodging, hospitals, and rest areas. In addition, the device provides exit numbers, direction, and distance from the interstate for specific services, and distance and driving time between towns on U.S. highways.
"This new initiative from Ultradata and the premier name in road travel, Rand McNally, will let consumers download online turn-by-turn driving directions from America's trusted travel advisor to affordable, easy-to-use handheld products," said Monte Ross, CEO of Ultradata Systems, Inc. "These affordable products will appeal to the general public, and this is a big step toward an Internet appliance that anyone with an Internet connection and a personal computer can readily use."
Consumers will be able to create multiple driving routes by visiting the TripLink(TM) section of the Rand McNally Web site (randmcnally.com). With the push of a button, the custom turn-by-turn driving routes are downloaded through a PC to the five-ounce, calculator-size handheld device, providing a portable navigation solution that is easy to use. Each specific route segment is clearly displayed, and the user can scroll through each turn of the route with the push of a button.
"TripLink(TM) combines the convenience and accuracy of Rand McNally's driving directions with a portable electronic index of highway facilities at a very affordable price," said Robert P. Denaro, senior vice president and general manager of Rand McNally's business-to-business unit. "TripLink(TM) is yet another way that Rand McNally will deliver information to travelers who want reliable travel information to take with them on the road."
Both products will be on sale at Rand McNally Map & Travel stores across the United States, online at randmcnally.com, and at select retailers nationwide.
