Asian mobile market shows big possibilities OpenMobile reaches its 25th mobile operator contract

OpenMobile, a leading developer of a global network of wireless services

for content developers and mobile operators, gains new operator contracts rapidly. The company today announced it has signed its 25th operator deal, only a month after reaching the milestone of 20 operator contracts.

Founded in June 2000, OpenMobile brings together mobile operators, content providers and companies with a strong brand in an open and non-exclusive environment by building a global network to provide mobile

SMS based value-added services, such as games and service applications. OpenMobile operates in the key markets of Europe and Asia.

OpenMobile's 25 mobile operator agreements cover a combined subscriber base of approximately 97 million customers in 15 countries in Europe and

Asia-Pacific. The company has also signed agreements with over 20 leading application and content providers in Europe. Negotiations continue with many other content providers in Europe, Asia, United States and South America.

OpenMobile's operator contracts include BT Cellnet and Vodafone in the UK, Mannesmann Mobilfunk in Germany, Sonera and Radiolinja in Finland, Mobile One and Starhub in Singapore, and Celcom in Malaysia. The company's application and content partners include leading providers such as Small Planet, WES, Springtoys, Codeonline, Frantic Media and Iocore.

OpenMobile has had its biggest successes in the Asian mobile market. "Mobile operators in Asia seem to be more ready to take advantage of our

offerings than the European ones. This is to a great extent due to their

more advanced networks and technical solutions. Many European operators still lack the billing capability for premium-priced mobile value-added services. This causes delays with new services", says Mr Thomas Zilliacus, CEO and Chairman of the Board of OpenMobile.

The rapid growth in the mobile communications market in Asia has brought

with it a rising demand for mobile value-added services. "We see huge business possibilities within the Asia-Pacific region. European markets are also growing steadily. The next generation mobile technologies will explode the mobile value-added services markets within both regions", states Thomas Zilliacus.

OpenMobile is in the middle of negotiations for additional funding from international investors. In June 2000, the company obtained US$11 million of venture capital financing from Wellington Partners and Shamrock Holdings.
