Busting Lines, Building Relationships: New Fujitsu Handheld With TouchPointMobile Transforms Wireless Retailing

Fujitsu-ISS Inc. Solution Delivers Mobile POS, Multi-Channel Management

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. announced today that Integrated Software Solutions Inc.'s leading mobile software, TouchPointMobile, has been optimized for Fujitsu's TeamPad 500 handheld computer.

Effective immediately, this solution gives retailers complete wireless capability to mobilize and expedite store operations, advance multi-channel points of service and encourage customer loyalty.

This hardware-software combination is being demonstrated for the first time at the Retail Systems 2001 Conference & Exposition, June 25-28, 2001, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Demonstrations will be performed at Fujitsu's booth, No. 1902; ISS' booth, No. 1341; and the Microsoft Partner Pavilion, booth No. 1002.

"This combination of technologies - hardware and software - is a customer-satisfaction solution for retailers," said Ron Omohundro, Fujitsu executive vice president and general manager. "We're transforming wireless retailing from a 'nice to have' to a 'must have.' The TeamPad 500-TouchPointMobile combination presents a multi-channel solution with a rugged, powerful, fully integrated, Web-enabled device equipped to take on every task at hand, be it line busting, price verification, mobile POS, real-time credit authorizations from any location in the store or inventory control."

For ISS President Ken Jenkins, the agreement represents a first in giving retailers a practical, performance-driven solution. "Retailers today are asking, 'How do I improve customer service, gain a competitive edge, build customer loyalty and ensure that store operations and costs are streamlined and simplified? How can I quickly and affordably transform my business?' With the TouchPointMobile-TeamPad 500 solution, and the advancement of wireless as a viable, effective technology, retailers are finding it easier than ever to transform their businesses," he said. "And now, with this combined offering, there's no better time to initiate going mobile, going multi-channel and doing it all in real time." ISS is a leading developer of Web-enhanced, retail enterprise applications.

The TeamPad and TouchPointMobile are available immediately from Fujitsu and ISS, respectively. Pricing varies, based on volume. The solution helps retailers:

-- add mobility and connectivity to overall store operations, from POS to back-office and legacy systems;

-- seamlessly integrate mobile retailing with existing POS systems, terminals and kiosks;

-- make "multi-channel" a reality with universal points of service for store managers, store associates and even customers for self check-out;

-- expedite shopper check-outs and bust long lines, thanks to the handheld's integrated scanner, mag-stripe reader and receipt printer;

-- extend convenience and value-added service with a mobile POS approach that ensures real-time credit authorizations from anywhere;

-- manage and monitor store data in real time, giving managers

and store associates a tool to check prices, manage inventory, scan coupons, provide customer receipts or review back-office data such as store reports and electronic journals.

The TeamPad 500 offers retailers an integrated design with superior functionality, including connectivity to virtually any wireless LAN, OPOS compliance, a Windows(r) CE platform, 150-MHz processor, touch-screen and combined keypad, integrated printer, scanner and magnetic-card reader. It also offers an extended battery life and is weatherproofed and ruggedized to withstand four-foot drops to concrete.

TouchPointMobile is a Web-based software application using XML technology to assist sales associates in expediting credit card-related customer checkout. The software performs price lookup, scans coupons, connects to the store credit network to validate credit card transactions and prints customer receipts all on the Fujitsu TeamPad 500 from anywhere on the sales floor. It operates using ISS' Enterprise Retail Service XML/XSL architecture.
