Deloitte Consulting and Telispark Announce New Wireless Solution for Aerospace & Defense Industries

Wireless MRO Functionality Presented at SAPPHIRE Orlando

Deloitte Consulting and Telispark Inc. today announced the launch of a new wireless Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) solution that extends the capacity of mySAP.com(R) to deliver point-of-use solutions to the Aerospace and Defense and Airline industries. The wireless MRO solution will be featured at SAPPHIRE(R), the international e-business conference, in Orlando, Fla. from June 13-15. Demonstrations will be presented during the SAP Federal Practice breakout session on June 14 at 2 pm, and at both the Public Services for mySAP(TM) Workplace(TM) and Deloitte Consulting exhibitor booths.

The wireless MRO solution offers maintenance technicians the ability to create work orders, view repair procedures, check inventory levels and request parts through mobile handheld access. The solution is enabled through the integration of Deloitte Consulting's preconfigured SAP(R) solution with Telispark's Mobile Field Works and Mobile Plant Works applications. This wireless MRO solution improves the timeliness and accuracy of data and delivers value where maintenance costs and equipment reliability directly affect profitability by offering more efficient operation and management of assets.

"Aircraft maintenance, in both the commercial airline and the Department of Defense, is one of the highest opportunity areas for wireless technology," said Mark Cavallo, Deloitte Consulting's Airline and Defense Practice Leader. "The combined complexity of remote locations, complex configurations and safety factors represents the perfect intersection of wireless's potential. The business case is clear, both in terms of cost avoidance and readiness improvements. Telispark delivers one of the key missing links in providing robust applications to the maintenance technician on a real-time basis, at the point of need."

Through Telispark's field service application, the MRO solution runs on virtually any handheld device, presents relevant information to users when and where they need it based on stored business logic, and consolidates data from multiple back-end systems, including leading SAP solutions and legacy systems.

"Telispark's mobile applications deliver software built for mobile processes, not just extensions of desktop applications to mobile devices," said Randy Brouckman, Telispark's CEO. "Leveraging years of back-end integration and business process expertise from Deloitte Consulting, Telispark formalizes and encapsulates the `wireless specific' business logic required for vertical industry activities. In this solution, relevant data is transmitted to front-line employees, allowing them to have much-needed information at their fingertips, saving time and aggravation for employees and money for the company."

The challenges of enabling collaborative business in today's fast-paced environment are twofold: informing the right people to take appropriate action immediately whenever something important happens that affects the enterprise, no matter where they are; and ensuring that employees always have access to the right resources and can work as efficiently as possible, whether they are on a flight or working at detached remote locations.
